JWB, thank you for that information about the nailed board. In some of the pics I found it looked like there was a board along the base of the load, but I could not make out its function. I had though about getting Walthers centerbeam loads, but I prefer to make my own, because I like building them and they come much cheaper. As for the banding: I decided not to have banding on top of the wrappings, because I found a lot of pics showing loads where the wrapping covers the banding (like this: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://railfan.ca/cgi-bin/view.cgi?image=Scotch_Block_27.01.05_0344.jpg&size=0">http://railfan.ca/cgi-bin/view.cgi?imag ... jpg&size=0</a><!-- m -->).
Wayne, thank you for the links. I agree, the tie-downs for centerbeams look great, but it really looks like a MAJOR project … well, maybe some day …
jhoc, I have tried to use electrical tape myself, but you will see that the nail art strips are much thinner and more tear-resistant. I will see if I can get some EZ-line .
