I agree that it looks a little odd. I have to have some form of "s" or the train will have the be staged on a curve, at least for the locomotive. I have put a 6 inch straight section in that will alleviate any issues for the longer rolling stock, mostly though I wont run long cars where possible and I believe in weighting your rolling stock as well, they don't behave like the real thing unless they are heavy.
