I feel like I'm a little late to this party.  I started to tumble down this rabbit hole recently too. If my layout wasn't close to chest height I probably wouldn't even have given this a shot.
I've done three builds like this so far.  This was my first attempt at doing brake detail like this.  I'll probably finish the rest of the kits I have in the same manner as I like how it looks when I view the layout at eye level.
