ISL 2016 - Thinking out loud
Rscott417 Wrote:I like the idea of making a current non rail served building former rail served building with either an old dock door or a bricked up dock opening.

Great thought! Thumbsup That adds realism to any type of layout. The door can stay intact for air ventilation on hot days and the siding can remain in place but,the switch been removed..

I think I have a photo of the 305 when it came through Bucyrus on its way to Lima.. W&LE no longer runs that train through here.

Hi there,
Brakie, it´s a hobby within our hobby... I spent hours with Google earth and maps and Bing and also viewing youtube videos because that´s the only way to get a feeling for it. Or making a holiday trip to the US or Canada but there is no time for that at the moment. ....

Snooping around Dallas TX which was served by SSW at one stage or at least thats where old SSW locos are seen between 1995 and 2005.

Came across this...its a lot like my layout. Greenery area leading into an "S"bend and through a concrete canyon followed by a switch and spur leading straight and right to industries.

And similar odd shaped buildings that don't line up.

Thanks to Ed (FCIN) for finding out a little more on this one for me... "Found it on Google. Looks like all the rail spurs have been pulled for some time, but the facility at that location is Custom Commodities Transport http://customcommodities.com/ So at one time they were trans-loading various commodities there (see website). All the trailers I see there are stainless steel so they would be handling food grade commodities - but no longer having rail service at that location, they must be trans-loading at another place. Regardless has plenty of potential for use on a layout. Modern metal structure - some large silos. I like the little unloading shed over the track that appears to be about 40ft long so you could spot a car inside and still be able to uncouple it"

I also found this which could be a cool feature to scratch build...

Hey Lajry, thanks for that link to historicaerials.com. That's a very useful tool and makes it quite obvious as to the rise and fall of rail service in an area.

Went and saw this industry I posted before and saw a number of cars on spot.
