Awesome. I did similar cutting down a standard gauge IHC flatcar to HOn3. I didn't get the deck seam really clean, and I may go back and use your techniques to see if I can improve it.

The Bachmann flatcar deck has such heavy "grain" texture makeing the blend easier. There needs to be about .010 shaved off so the seam really disappears.
The "grain" looks like bark.
