I started to work on the area where the foundry is gonna live, so naturally I had to move it out of the way. As I often do, I just moved it to some other place on the layout and go about my business. When I finished working on the area (prepping the "ground" for cover and such...) I clean up after me, and sit down to contemplate the layout...I look over to where the foundry is sitting...and I'm floored..!! It looks GORGEOUS just where it's sitting...
Now, since this is the roundhouse area, it sure isn't going to stay there...But...I'm now thinking of building the roundhouse not as originally planned....
but with a sheetmetal structure....
What do you guys think..??

It sounds like a great plan.

1/2 n 1/2.
Do a couple or three stalls in basic traditional brick, then add another set of stalls in the sheet metal. They could even just be open air with a sheet metal roof (to keep that hot desert sun off)

I like the sheet iron plan Gus. Its only me maybe, and it depends I guess on what era you are planning, and how rundown (or not) it will be, but I like the detail you could add and the fun of the sheet metal structure. I reckon you did such a good job on the Foundry that you would be itching to have a go at another one and embellish it some more, make it truly an original.

Sorry to get back a li'l late on this...(Been workin' on the railroad...). Since it'll only be a 3-stall r'house (space is limited...
) I can't do the mixed materials type. I've been thinking a lot on this, and think (right now...
) that I'll stick with the original plan, since I've already purchased most of the materials. I'm also going to have a copper smelter on another part of the layout, and I'll indulge my sheet metal itch there. I might just do a shop add-on to the r'house in sheet metal, though....
