doctorwayne Wrote:foofarah Is that a technical term Doc? You did a great job, I hadn't noticed till you mentioned it. Awhile back I mentioned to you the trouble I have with my vision, that is the type of thing I just can't do. A couple weeks ago I made the decision to have cataract surgery in hopes of improving my ability to see details. So I made the call to the specialist recommended, and am a bit disappointed in how long it will be, I was given an appointment for an 11/19 consultation. Who knows how long after that the actual surgery will take place! Once I made the decision ( a little difficult because other than small details, I see fine) I had hoped to have it happen right away. I'm looking forward to (hopefully) being able to do better detail work.

Gary, is that appointment for the 19th of November, or for November 2019? Two months is not that bad for a wait time, and the surgery date may depend on the severity of your case. I certainly wouldn't relish the thought of any type of eye surgery, but if the problem were acute, what are your options? I would hate to be in any way disabled, but blindness seems especially debilitating, and that's not to diminish the severity of other disabilities.
Actually, I plucked foofarah out of some dark recess of my mind (which often is "on recess") ![]() He's a real technophobe, only recently acquiring a TV in order to be able to view railroad DVDs. One of his favourite expressions, often joked about at one of the local hobby shops is "Well, I certainly won't be looking for it on www-dot-anything!", the actual wording usually peppered with expletives. ![]() ![]() However, after our conversation, some googling (wassat?) finally came up with the answer, although it took quite a few tries to come up with wording to express that for which I was searching. He was almost aghast that the internet had come to the rescue, but I think he's coming around a bit - at least I can make mention of it without getting a diatribe on the evils of technology. ![]() That "foofarah" is actually composed of two parts, with the horizontal stroke capping the lower curve being a simple serif, as found on Roman-style lettering. The little vertical or sometimes angled tail is actually known as a "spur", while a true typographic "tail" is the foofarah which turns a capital "O" into a capital "Q". ![]() ![]() ![]() For the one or fewer who may be interested in this subject, there's a little more on it HERE. ![]() Wayne

Here's a general service 50' LS&W plug door boxcar.
I really like these decals since they reminded me of the old Champ decals which I found easy to work with. ![]()

Good Brakie! You remind me I should be able to post some pictures of mine by the end of the week. The wood-sided 40' boxcar is awaiting weathering. I also reused the remaining decals to custom paint a QRL&PCo 2-6-0.
@Wayne: Maybe it's too much work, but it would be interesting to make an actual roster of LS&W (car type, road number, modeller). Matt

biL's decals have been used for a freelance switcher built with the Atlas nose and cab parts of an SD24 on an old P2K geep. The road number must be 40 today. It's our 40th anniversary today

Nice rebuild, Reinhard, and I'll bet that biL would have appreciated those camelback-style Paducah air filters, too.
![]() Equally as important, congratulations to you and your wife on your 40th anniversary. ![]() Wayne
