Ore Hill Transformation
#1
This is my scratchbuilt Ore Hill station that I did for a challenge on the "other forum". I built it using a picture from the early 1920's and is completely scratch built using styrene. Well for the challenge, I also did some scenery work, so I can use it for pictures. Someone on the "other forum", asked if I was going to incorparate into my layout.
Yep....I did.

The next shots show the transformation from picture backdrop, to layout scene.

Basic frame work. S&W GP38-2, parked on S&W main.

More framework done, Central New England main is in the back. Southwick and Winsted main in front

Plastering(Scupta-Mold) and repalced the original tarck with a single piece of flex.
The bunk house was given to me by member Abutt, the storage shed is another scratchbuilt from another challenge.

Some scenery work done. Working in the attic, I have no room for a backdrop.

More pictures when completed.

Great job on that station...and the layout....!!! Thumbsup
Instead of the "typical" backdrop, just place some painted white/blue 1/8" hardboard over those rafters and you're set to go....
Keep us posted..!!

yes, I agree with the back drop idea Cheers , but first put some insulation between those rafters!

There is nothing else I know of that gives you more bang for the buck

cheers! Cheers

Ditto to both the basic backdrop and insulation ideas. Nice work on the station and incorporating it into the scene.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions.
I was thinking maybe poster board between the joists, with the joist painted the same color. either blue or white.
Here's some pictures of the layout, and what space I have to deal with.
Aren't us model railroaders an adatptive bunch?

Anyway, this shot shows the protion that I've been working on for the last eight years. You can see that its partially sceneiced. The reason it took so long to finish a loop was that there was a psuedo wall, that I hadn't no idea what to do with. I originally cut a hole, which the planned track would of exited out on this side. This stopped all layout construction and was why it took mee almost eight years to complete a complete loop, though I did do scenery work, and it wasn't very impressive, running a train from one side to the other and backing it up, especially when visitors came over. Finally, I just took the wall out last year, which extended my yard. You can see in the second picture, arrows point to the 2x4 that was left, and where the wall ended. The building in front of the 2x4 was built to butt up against the wall. The rest of the 2x4 will be taken out and the building will get a back. The building is camoflaging a 3/4 wall.

Finally, after the wall was taken down, the layout has been getting worked on at warp speed. What you see has happened in just the last two months. I'l have better luck putting a back drop on this wall though.
