What do you model apart from railroads ?
#16
I can't say I have seriously modeled anything else but railroads since I was about 15.

But on a side note, I hade a conversation with my dad a few weeks ago where I thought that military modelers outnumbered railroad modelers. he disagreed. What do you all think about that? If you count up the planes, tanks, and figures...vs all scales of trains - who wins?

Boy Val.

I had to double check a couple of those photos.
I thought I was looking at the real thing there.
Nice modeling.

In this case, pictures are worth a thousand words.
This was a "junkbuild"
An F101 Voodoo kitbash
Ongoing USS Randolph cvs-15 (1/700)
A scratchbuilt 40' gaff rigged cutter of my own design
Starfleet Battle Cruiser (movie era)
Cast metal dragon kits in a mini diorama
A 137' coastal freighter (1/87)

Val...I'm with Will...had to look twice to see if it was a model...or the "real" thing... Thumbsup

Like most everyone...I've dabbled in plastic models....and still have a couple yet to build: the Columbia space shuttle and an F104 Starfighter (the flying casket variety...). I also built a gorgeous model of the Saturn V/Apollo rocket (about 3 feet tall), but sold it to a modeling friend...He just kept upping the price 'till I gave in..... Goldth

I modeled extensively in R/C aircraft for about 20 years, but gave it up....too much of an investment to plow furroughs in the field. I do have a brand new RC set just waiting for me to build a plane for it, so it's not totally out of my blood.... Nope

I attribute all these addictions to my ol' man...He was working on a Z-scale layout when he said his last good bye. I still have all his equipment, both HO and Z... Sad

From the end of elementary school through junior high, I built cheap plastic ship kits.
I built:
A PT boat
two super carriers
five battleships
two 1940s carriers
a cruiser

In college, one of my cousins was an officer on a Ticonderoga, so I mail ordered a model of her ship. I then built and assembled it...and gave it to her fro Christmas...but it lured me into building a Scharnhorst battle cruiser...I haven't done any since then.

I don't build models other than trains. I require a herculean effort to drum up enough interest to build structures for my layout.

Thanks Val! Coming from someone who works to as high a level of quality as you do, that's high praise indeed! I somehow missed the fact that you did 1/6th military models. Very nice!

Val, that is some excellent modeling.
When can we see a 1/6th scale model of a WWII German Railgun from you?

Ed, you won't see one from me, but there actually is a guy who's done one. I think there was a link here (or maybe it was the old forum) but in case you're in the mood for some major eye-candy, here it is again:

Some of these military figures look very real -- well done!

When I was a teenager in the 1970s, I was an avid model airplane builder. I built both balsa wood and plastic models, although I especially enjoyed the balsa wood ones. Unfortunately, they warped & deteriorated with age -- but I still actually might have some left in the garage! At that time, my Dad was a railway enthusiast while I was into model planes.

I remember seeing that Val, thats why I was wondering if you were going to do one.
If not a railgun....1/6th scale "Bismark"?.....HMS Hood?....I know....USS Hornet, complete with all sixteen B-25's of Doolittle's Raid.(WOW!..That just hit me....I'm just kidding.....But can you imagine that!)

Edit: Just out of curiosity. I went to 1/87 Vehicle Clubs website and borrowed their scale converter. Then checked dims on the Hornet and B-25.
If someone WAS to make a 1/6th scale model of the USS Hornet(CV8) the flight deck would measure 137' long x 19' wide(You got room..Right val?) Each B-25 would have an 11' wingspan.

Just think, the Hood in 1/6 scale would be 143' long :jawdrop:

I can recall the photos of that awesome Kriegslok from before. Very cool.

I'm into vehicles, all the way from 1:160 up to and including 1/18th scale.I should include 1:144 too as the vehicles on our 2TRAK layout are all 1:144.My preference seems to be trucks ranging from 1/2ton pickups to the big over the road rigs.

In my younger days I collected promotional models (I have over 5,000) This all started at the age of 7 when my dad bought me a 52 Pontiac model from the Pontiac dealer in Eaton Rapids,MI.My collection runs from 1949 till 2007.

Val, as usual your modeling ROCKS!
