another concept plan

The reason why it looks like an Orphan is because your viewing the river in relationship to the other bodys of water on the layout correct? I'm choosing to look at the railway as three separate scenes, instead of one large scene where a river in the north would affect the shape of a river in the south. This is one part of the plan I'm pretty much fixed in keeping...

I started preliminary construction of the layout today using my available stock of Unitrack, which consists of about 70-80% of the track I need for the layout. I had just enough to complete the mainline....with a few alterations

#6 turnouts became #4 turnouts, a few 381 radius curves became 348 radius curves (15" to 13.5" radius) , and some missing track pieces (more turnouts and 3 of the bridges) were just replaced with straight track for now...

I just built the main line with a couple of the sidings but without inclines or wiring it up, just to see how it works out spatially.

I found a few things that were interesting, all with Winrail being the culprit...

1: The northernmost tracks which were right along the wall edge, and would theoretically even be "inside" the wall if the layout was aligned properly in winrail... were 2-4" away from the wall

2: The three bridges on the west wall... all three tracks are a LOT closer than they should be, laying out the track as shown in the layout

3: The one foot gap between the two loops in the lower corner... well, its 1.5 feet, and is wide enough to get through.

So far I'm liking where it's all going. I'm gonna probably do the yard with flex track and peco turnouts... as I have many of them already, and it would save me some cash... I also have no problems laying out straight sections of flex... or at least I think I don't. Smile

I'm also thinking I need a name...

Canadian Rockies, both CN and CP operations, a medium sized town and a small town... so like a Revelstoke to Sciccamouse line.. and I just totally spelt that wrong
