Christmas Layout
#1
Here is the layout I have been working on this weekend for my two grandsons (Gavin and Ryan).
It will sit on top of the existing wooden train table.
They already have locomotives with sound and many pieces of rolling stock.
I plan on using 2 MRC Tech 6's so they can access the sound and run on DC.
Hope you enjoy.

The kids are going to have alot of fun with that. Are they getting involved with the building of the layout or is it a total surprise?

All I can say is--- Robin must be running the store! LOL.
With your rebuild and this project you must have your hands full. One question ? The track in the photos has differant colors or is that just from lighting?

woodone , you are correct in your eye. There are concrete and wood ties there. The ballast is the same.

Did you mix track? If so, may I ask what brands?

If not, will you excuse my ignorance? Big Grin

I like the track plan, it is really nice how you altered the standard oval and have different shapes on each end. Two questions about the Kato track. Are the concrete curve tracks the superelevated ones? Are the three tracks that the road crosses the track the kato crossing tracks and if so, how do they hook together? The layout looks fun to run. Have fun!

Hi Mike,

I was wondering about your plan to have the left and right sides of the loops as separate electrical blocks? In terms of operations for the boys (not to mention the possibility of "racing" Wink), would it be better to isolate the inner and outer track instead? That way one of them could orbit the outer loop while the other is occupied with switching on the inside/sidings.

Scott , yes the concrete is superelevated and the road crossing tracks have detatchable wings if you want to add them together. They have two tabs on the bottoms of the wings or center sections that hook under the track to hold them in place.

Thanks Andrew. The plan is a little hard to really understand because ALL of those feeders will be on a DPDT switch and their own block for either of two Tech 6 controllers fo working sound.
