How will you access the track inside the tunnels?

From underneath, there is a frame and then 5 cross members.

Once Paul is finished the layout, we are taking it off the showcase it is on and mounting it on six legs, three per side.

Day Eleven: Photo count 205

Today was the day that Paul tackled the trestle gorge and lake area.

So I was always under the impression that good looking landscaping was the result of long and meticulous work. Apparently that was wrong. Very nice trestle scene.

Thanks Tetters.

TV_man it is meticulous work. The two main things I have learned from Paul during these two weeks are concentration and logic. Whenever he is approaching an area, he always says "I will do it this way because it is logical". And when he is carving his rock he is very focused and serious, he says he has to concentrate to get it looking real. "Take your time and concentrate on doing it right".

Well, by now Paul is in the air and on his way back to Germany.

Many people here were touched by his amazingly jovial personality. He was always friendly and everyone he met liked him imediately.

As for the layout. He almost succeeded in his quest to complete a layout in two weeks. The only thing left for Tom and I to do is the small village on the upper level.

I have just updated the website and it now has a total of 220 photos of this amazing build.

Paul, from everyone here in Muskoka, Danke mein Freund.

Now I have to finish writing the article and sorting the photos so I can send them to the magazine.

Thank you Mr Nutbar and Steamtrains. We are glad you liked it.

I know what you mean, I am fired up now to do some work on the CVR layout at home.
But first I need to build a diorama. I gave the old mini layout to Dustin. Now I need something to display scenery techniques for an NMRA clinic I am giving in April at the Lindsay show.

An interesting side note. It has only been a week since Paul left, and several people have come in to see the layout.

Almost all the modelers who have come in have made a comment about the track.
Most say something like "Oh, he used Code55 track, it looks so much better than Code80".

Well, we used Code80, but Paul painted it with Dollar Store Cinnamon Brown acrylic paint.

I actually had an arguement with two fellows who swore they could tell the difference and no way did we use Code80, because this looked realistic.

Go figure.

Slowly progressing.

We have gone from 10 hours a day when Paul was here, to 2-3 hours every Thursday evening.

Below is a photo from a week ago Thursday, since then more trees have been added.

Our next step will be the plexiglass case. Already people are leaning/pulling on the edge of the layout and rubbing off the ground cover.

RRrrrrgh!! Curse That has to be pet peeve numero uno for me - folks leaning on the edge of the layout. I guess if it's your layout and you want to lean on it then go right ahead. Smoke a pipe and swirl a brandy while you're at it (trying to look cool, I guess). But somehow we are a tactile people who like to experience through touch.

Anyway, rant aside, the layout is looking great! I like the shot from far above to be able to compare progress.

Nicely done, and keep up the good work!
