''Morganth'' an intermodal based DCC layout

Hi All,

At last after surviving a house move the Mine is in place, the storage bin has been bashed to fit in with the scenery not sure if a truck road should run to it or another railroad track, having the camera on a night setting due to the awful light here gives a redder hue to the mine .... the third picture gives a true look to the building ...... have to take some in good sunlight when we get it Icon_lol

Some more ballasting and scenics especially around the storage bin and it will be pretty well done some figures will help to liven it up a bit coming soon.

The two dark marks on the building he inner road side are where diluted PVA spilt and need weathering over again to blend in.

I really like that mine! Have you thought about putting signs identifying the company on it?

Thanks to you all for your kind words and encouragment Thumbsup

Short update on things today ....... i spent the afternoon redoing the end table board stripping the track from it the remainder of the turntable still in place it needs a thin ply covering to make it my worbench ..... though small hopefully it will make me neater and there is plenty of space underneath to add shelves, for a DC supply and another powerpoint for the iron etc.

Also at this end is the tunnel which needs access for maintenance and any derailments that occur though there hasnt been a problem with those so far ......... the end board will give support for the tunnel top and form a backboard.

Almost full board width access to the inside of the tunnel ...... from the left side i can reach to the end of the tunnel.

The Grey board is a refueling/sand tower base if it will fit in on the layout ....... half finished.

It's a good thing you took pictures of your workbench in its "brand new" state....If you're like the rest of us...it won't be so orderly & nice very soon.... Goldth

I like the idea of a door to access that tunnel...Could come in handy... Thumbsup

Hi Guys,

I would like some advice for an overpass to service the intermodal section off the layout from hopefully the mine road board,

Where would you put it and how long should it be /how many lanes wide ?

Heres the plan with the inside of the tracks already there i have 12inches wide to play with for the tracks for the intermodal scene on both boards two mi jack cranes built up for handling the red circle is one idea i had the overpass would go to the right hand side to meet the backboard into a rockface tunnel passing over the upper railroad tracks there.

Also what are the real dimensions of round supports of an overpass in diameter as i have seen a type to model from plastic tubing.

I would like to depict an access/exit road for the trucks to haul the containers from the yard but need some ideas of dimensions and input please such as here else the road would fit in well ?

Hi nick.

To be honest, if it's just for storage it would make sense for it to be only a single track branchline - saves space for scenery as an added bonus. As for length, you could probablymake it quite short - no need to have it looping around the layout id have thought.

Where the original spur for it was (just abouve the service track) would still be a good place to have it coming off. Perhaps you could reverse the direction of the spur so it goes directly to the dotted line. Just a thought.

Anyway, speak to you soon. Probably catch you in the AMR chat at some point.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the input .... think i have it solved now added another board to the layout to add a 4ft X 15'' storage area though the turntable will take up too much space so it will be fed by a road under the outer lines coming down as per the plan and have several turnouts feeding the storage area ..... hope to have some pics soon once the basic ideas have been put down.
