Ten From 2010: A Year in Review
#1
Railroad photography for me has always been about capturing the definitive moment in time. I have never put too much emphasis on catching the "elusive" once-in-a-lifetime experiences as those, all too often, are not in fact once-in-a-lifetime. Quite the opposite, I want to turn the ordinary into extraordinary. Railroading, as any railroader will tell you, is not all sunshine and rainbows. And you need some rain to get that rainbow anyway. As such, I've never felt that railroad photography should be matched power heading into the golden glow of a sunset. Nor does it even need to have a locomotive or a train to be a railroad photograph. Railroad photography is about the job as much as the trains. In the past year I've been fortunate to see many different facets of railroading and I'd like to present my favorites to you here. These are ten favorite images from 2010.

I just want to say a big THANK YOU for sharing your photos with us. I definitely get ideas from the photos, and you do a good job in capturing the day to day operations like you mentioned. Love your top ten, and hope to see alot more of your photos in 2011. I've also visited your FickR page, good stuff there!

Very nice photography, and nice subjects. I especially like the image with the young lady in the middle ground and the look down a street toward the tracks, as well as the image taken from inside the culvert or bridge arch.

The tire tracks and patterns in the snow on the last photo are quite interesting -

But take a look at the people in the Amtrak photo. The conductor is listening to the woman leaning out of the coach, the couple hugging - great scene.

They are great shots.
The one with the kids wading in the river, while the train goes by......Reminds me of O.Winston Link picture....With a modern touch.
