Jonte, the UK ebay has some different brick sheets made by Wills. What is the part# of your sheets (e.g. SSMP.... ) ?

Hi Reinhard,

According to the packet it came in, it's listed as.......Plain Bond brickwork.....# SSMP 212.

The piece in the picture was a leftover from a Wills' bridge kit that eventually fell to pieces as I wasn't good at glueing stuff together at the time! This is listed as English Bond #SSMP 227.

The main advantage of Wills' embossed card is that it doesn't require reinforcing by glueing to a plain piece of plasticard like many others which pretty much dispenses with the risk of warping. However, it's rigidity creates its own problems, mainly by being difficult to cut so call to your local tool hire shop and hire a grinder on your way home It's also slightly overscale for HO - some have mooted that it's more suitable to 'S' scale - but if you don't tell anybody, I won't! I think it's ideal though for the slightly care worn look I'm after with this building, especially the technique I'm using.

It stopped raining this morning - briefly - so I popped outside and tried again to photograph the gates in an attempt to show a little more detail.

They're merely a friction fit for purposes of the photo.

Thank you, an ebay order for both numbers has been placed a minute ago. The brick pattern looks irregular. They might be a good base for a run down wall.

I could be wrong, here Reinhard, but I'm sure I once read that Iain Rice - renowned UK railway modeller and author who also delved into Railroading in latter years and had articles published in several North American publications - designed the templates for the Wills embossed sheets.

Hi.

Just thought I'd share with you my feeble attempts at soldering up a set of extendable gates from some thin brass wire and offcuts of code 40 rail:

Apologies for the poor quality of the shots which were taken in fading light which activated the flash.

Although the building I'm basing mine on didn't sport this type of gate, I can't help noticing that it was/is somewhat ubiquitous in the downtown area.

I'd like to have shown one side of the gates in an open position, however, the finest wire required was a darned nuisance to cut without bending and frankly my soldering skills weren't up to it! These would be an ideal subject for etching in this scale, I reckon.

Anyway, I hope you like 'em.

Those brick protectors are quite awful and just have to go.

Wouldn't mind but they're Evergreen or Plastruct 'L' shapes which cost an arm and a leg, and they're so fine you can barely see them without your bins on, but the photos make them look like they're almost a scale foot thick
