Did the C&O ever use unmodified USRA Mike's?

It appears that the very first Mikado the C&O bought #800 was designed by the American Locomotive Company in cooperation with C&O and it was essentially a rebuild of the 4-8-2 Mountain. The numbers were changed to 900 series then 1100 series then in 1924 1200 was added. Your 2341 was built in 1925 - 26. As far as unmodified USRA mikes goes they acquired some from other roads through mergers which were modified rather quickly. Hope this answers your question.

How's that K-2 project coming along?

I just bought a BLI Heavy 2-8-2 and am planning on doing the same thing! If you join the Yahoo Group "ChesapeakeOhioRailway," and look under "Files," there is a folder containing notes on how to convert a BLI Heavy 2-8-2 into a C&O K-3a (very similar in most respects to a K-2). Take a look and see if this helps (that, is if you still aren't finished with your project!)

Thank you! I'll check that out. Unfortunately a recent move and a death in the family has put all my projects on hold for a while. Its been rough, but I hope to get back into railroading in the next few months.

Kanawha....Sorry to hear of your loss....Having gone through a similar experience all I can say is that spending some time "playing" with trains brings some relief...
Life goes on....

Ralpho....Welcome to The Gauge...!!! Welcome

C&O inherited a few USRA Heavy Mikados when they took over the PM in 1947. They renumbered them, but didn't change the road name, as they scrapped them within 2 years of assuming control. They were primarily used in manifest freight service between Grand Rapids, MI and Chicago, Saginaw, MI to OH and Traverse City, MI to Grand Rapids, MI
Don't follow me, I'm lost too.
