Lester, that is a great rebuild to suit your needs.
My two hatched are made like your door of wood. I have the problem that variations of temperature and humidity result is misalignment of the tracks. They are physical strong build but the wood grows and shrinks over the time. Do you notice similar effects?

Been there for about a month. Need a little more time. I was thinking that might be a problem. Is yours painted? I plan to paint it and surrounding structures with oil based paint trying to keep out moisture.

No, the wood is not painted. The layout is in my home office in an apartment at the 4.th level. No extreme conditions like in a cellar etc. The humidity varies between 40% and 70%. The temperature low might be 18°C and summer high 30°C. Those are very normal central European conditions.

Well I cleaned up the mess and found this.

The really neat part about all of this is I haven't spent one penny on this whole thing. Someone getting out of the hobby gave me their layout including buildings, building kits and scenery. All of this is new, not as still in the box but the layout was built and not run probably no more than 2 years ago. So I am on a roll and wishing I had more room.

Gee, Les, you find way better junk when you clean up than do I.

When I was asked if I was interested in getting this stuff I couldn't say yes fast enough. I had no idea what it was at the time. As a wild guess I would say $2,000. There are four boxes full of misc. items like 2 twenty packs of K Dee #5. The DPM packs, Atlas under board switch machines still in the boxes, probably close to 100 Prieser little plastic people, assembled buildings and much more.

I might not be able to work on my layout now BUT, I can still work on my new Gern building.

Takes some time to get it done, oh wait git er done. When left arm is not working due to stroke and right arm not working due to surgery.
I can just see Gern box cars sitting there. Still to be built.

Well I am at it again. this grade is / was to steep.

So I had to tear it out. I think it was about 3%. What I am working on is1/ 4inch to the foot what ever grade that is. This has become as big of a job as the original was. I will have some photos soon.
