Nice open-to-public MR layout in Fredrikstad Norway

Hi --

Happened to see a report about a new 1800 square foot model railroad attraction in Fredrikstad, Norway, on NRK TV (the biggest TV channel in Norway - nice to see them promote the hobby in prime time), and they gave a link to a 12 minute video showing the whole layout: http://www.nrk.no/nyheter/distrikt/ostfold/1.8025258

Took them 8 years to build this. And since it got a little small, the bought the next door building too, and are busy expanding. The second half is scheduled to open on 12.12.12, at 12 minutes past 12 :-)

Yep - according to their web page (http://gbmj.no/wordpress/) Märklin track with center studs.

Their web site (which is not very professionally made) also says that they have had about 63 000 visitors since they opened in September 2010. Seems like a quite popular attraction, considering that they are open only Saturdays from 11am - 4pm and Sundays from noon to 4 pm.

Vigdis and I watched the TV program yesterday evening, looks like a nice setup. Fredrikstad isn't that far from here either, so we were thinking of taking a trip down there some time.

Stein: I'm sure you are aware of it, but for sensitive viewers I must warn that a couple of shots in that video aren't exactly PG-13...

Well, yeah there are a couple of very brief images of little nudists and one of an amoruous couple in motion in the woods but these almost seem like standrad humor on European layouts to me. The video is professionaly done with multiple cameras and a great instrumental soundtrack. I was most impressed by the camera following the fast moving train around minute 6. Defintely a terrific showcase for this layout. I decided to watch it again this morning and my cat Lucy noticed the movment. She jumped on the computer desk and sat in rapt attention for several minutes!




She especially seemed to like the tunnel shots.
