Looks good to me Colour wise it's hard to say without an overall photo to see how it 'sits' within the layout, but I don't think the colour screams Miami.

Thanks Kev, your comments have made me think that maybe the structure doesn't quite fit in with the rest of the layout.

I'll use it as a temporary structure for now as it fits well in the space available.

This week I've continued to work on the Transflo terminal and decided that a wall at the back of the area together with some overgrown shrubs/weeds (rather like by back yard/garden!)

would partially hide a train standing on the storage track. I used a similar arrangement with my Palmetto Spur layout.

Looking good, that is a clever way of hiding your storage areas without loosing access to it, or having to apologize for its existance. Keep us posted on your project, it sure is neat to watch your progress!

I decided that the low relief structure just didn't look right so I've modeled another shoebox warehouse. The warehouse is disused and I couldn't resist painting it a nice Miami style art deco color inspired by Lance Mindheim's ' Stucco and Pastels' book. I'll add details and weather the model later.


   


Next a pic showing a train on the staging/storage track. The pic is taken from a standing postition, as I usually operate in Fat Contoller mode (ie sitting down) the train is mostly hidden adding to the illusion that the train is just arriving at Deerfield Beach.

Looks great in every photo Mal I like the new warehouse and once weathered it will fit in perfectly. Shows you just have to go with what 'feels' right sometimes.

Nicely done Mal, "hiding" the storage this way is rather simple, but effective.

The bird view is interesting because we can appreciate the realistic proportion and location of your building.

The building choice really looks great, I agree with the comments about going with your gut in regards to buildings. I think it has the Florida feel much more then the last stand in building. As always keep up the great work and keep us posted!!

This week I've completed building and painting the non-rail served warehouses. They are scratchbuilt with 60 thou styrene laminated with 30 thou 'concrete' textured styrene to give a Miami style stucco finish. I'll weather the structures and add details later together with more overgrown foliage, weeds etc.

I'm fortunate that the layout is situated in a small bedroom which receives a lot of natural daylight, ideal for pics and videos.

Sometimes the sun shines and then there is a nice sunset, just like this one I caught at Deerfiled Beach yesterday.
