My new workbench and workroom
#1
I haven't made a lot of progress on anything lately as I have been renovating my old darkroom and turning it to my new modeling workroom. Yesterday the final pieces arrived from Australia and I spent the evening putting those components together and arranging them on the workbench (they may not be in their final configuration though). The room is about 9' long and is 50" wide, so despite it looking quite large in some of the pictures its really not. Some of the components I bought are more suitable to my other hobbies like the paint racks but the drawers should be useful for most of my modeling tools. Now I have a nice place to work on stuff with its own door to keep the riff-raff (cats) out.

There are more pictures in my blog that have close ups of the new components (the drawers and the paint racks) in this thread: http://wargamesandrailroads.blogspot.com...ieces.html

And the original thread with more pictures of the room itself are here:

I didn't make the drawers or the paint ranks. Those came from a company in Australia called back 2 base-ix. The shipping was horrendous so I had I spent a lot of time looking at variations from other manufacturers and I kept coming back to these. After two months of mulling it over I finally broke down and ordered them. I bought the MDF versions but you can also get them in a variety of colored acrylic. Here is their website: http://www.back2base-ix.com/index.php?_a...&catId=105

That should take you directly to the page for their hobby organizers. The rest of their site is pretty much devoted to my other hobby of wargaming.

Here is where I will make my workshop and possibly a layout on one side , in my new place in Colorado. There are two of these , one on each side of the entry hall in the space above the 5 car garage ( it's gonna be full of hotrods!)they are about 16 feet long and about 7 feet high at the one side. Plan is to insulate & sheetrock them , put a window in at the end a door at the entry hall on each of them and of course a TON of light.

I can see your reasoning, however , at least as far as a working area ,if the bench is located on the tall wall, sitting and working should be no problem.Actually , I can stand straight up about till the outside edge of the white cabinet , probably 30 plus inches from the wall.

If you look close you can see another hobby showing , there is a set of 3 Stromberg 97 carbs , a few camshafts, and a cylinder head for a 354 Chrysler hemi laying about.
