Great tip for the nail art strip, just ordered some from eBay, up to this point I have been cutting black electrical tape into very thin strips but is is hard to get consistency.
For the securing straps I use Ezline, it is great stuff stretches up to 700 percent so you can remove the load.
JWB, thank you for that information about the nailed board. In some of the pics I found it looked like there was a board along the base of the load, but I could not make out its function. I had though about getting Walthers centerbeam loads, but I prefer to make my own, because I like building them and they come much cheaper. As for the banding: I decided not to have banding on top of the wrappings, because I found a lot of pics showing loads where the wrapping covers the banding (like this: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://railfan.ca/cgi-bin/view.cgi?image=Scotch_Block_27.01.05_0344.jpg&size=0">http://railfan.ca/cgi-bin/view.cgi?imag ... jpg&size=0</a><!-- m -->).
Wayne, thank you for the links. I agree, the tie-downs for centerbeams look great, but it really looks like a MAJOR project … well, maybe some day …
jhoc, I have tried to use electrical tape myself, but you will see that the nail art strips are much thinner and more tear-resistant. I will see if I can get some EZ-line .

Kurt, I see the straps over the wrapped wood very well. However, how about doing the nail bands (great finding!!) at the correct locations of the load aligned with the correct positions on the car but do not connect them at all to the car. The black straps will be visible and the load can be removed easy.
Reinhard, I was talking about the banding that holds the individual lumber bundles together and not about the cables that fix the lumber load to the car. To simulate the cables as you suggest by using the nail art strips might be worth trying.

Bruce, thank you for the pics. I really like the load in the first one … I will have to build one like that.
After this short lumber load interlude I am back working on the layout again. Today I built the cores of the last two structures. Next thing I will have to do is painting the track … I absolutley "love" that … anyone here wants to do that for me? :mrgreen:
