shortliner Wrote:Kurt - what do you use for the roller doors with the tops, please

Shortliner,

It looks like Plastruct Half Round at the top of the window cut to length.

Painkiller, thank you. I am glad that I now have reached the stage where I can do the real fun stuff like building and detailing structures.

Jack, the roller doors are corrugated styrene with square 1 mm strips on both sides and the tops are pieces from 4 x 3 mm Evergreen strips cut to length with two of the edges sanded off.

Larry, close guess Wink .

Kurt,

The curved building is coming out really nice. Are the "brick sheets" that you wrapped the building in styrene or some other material?

Mark, the bricks are .020" thin embossed styrene sheets like these made by JTT: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.micromark.com/jtt-plastic-pattern-sheets-ho-scale-brick-75-x12-sheets-2-sheets-per-pkg,10405.html">http://www.micromark.com/jtt-plastic-pa ... 10405.html</a><!-- m --> or Plastruct: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/570-91611">http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/570-91611</a><!-- m -->.

Just a short update. The first two structures are ready for being painted: The big curved one and the warehouse that is housing the chemical company on the left end of my layout.

That looks very good! How do you plan to proceed with the windows?

ps. Your weathered tracks and the dark ballast look very realistic

Looking good! This will be an awesome layout!

Truly looking great! That cured structure and spur is certainly an attention getter! I'm wondering if I can work something like that into my current track plan.

Kurt,

Really nice job. Will most of your structures be brick?

Looks awesome so far can't wait for more updates. Why did you choose to flip your layout instead of the actual track plan at Bushwick terminal?

Thank you guys, I really appreciate your feedback.

Reinhard, probably I will paint the backside of the glazing before gluing the windows in, but I still have to try out if it looks good or if I can find a better solution … but I am in no hurry, because I want to finish the other buildings and lay groundcover first.

Ed, I love those curved structures and especially this one. I wanted to build it from the moment that I first saw it.

Rscott, to operate my layout I have to attach my 7 ft. extension and I can only attach it to the left side. Without the extension the runaround is useless. I could have built a shorter runaround to operate the layout without the need of an extension, but that would have limited the value of the runaround and it would have been necessary to compress the whole scene. But I wanted to build it without any scenic compression and without limiting operational possibilities, so flipping the layout was the only way to achieve that.

Larry, sorry, I forgot to answer your question yesterday. Yes, most of the buildings will be brick with some corrugated metal and cinderblocks here and there. I still have to decide how to do the structure on the right end of the layout. It might be concrete.

Kurt - Those long brick buildings are simply gorgeous. They scream 1950's! Good call on the extension, also. Ric
