That looks very good! How do you glue the small pieces of junk to the ground? I could not find a satisfactory solution for me. Especially the junk paper/newspaper becomes a flat wallpaper at the ground when done with white glue.

ps. be prepared to be copied merciless ..... Wink

I’d feel honored …

Ralph, thank you, but you know that you only got fooled by the real sky that pasted into the pic Wink Goldth

Very well done, the various colors and textures are very convincing. I also enjoy the trackside trash that is very common in these areas. I would just continue to do what you are doing adding weeds, junks and details as you see fit.

Keep us posted on your progress!

Superb work and pics Kurt! Thumbsup

Which products did you use for the overgrown grass and weeds? The ground cover looks so real.

You would normally see a relay case like the one you have with crossing gates:

I don't know if you have those in mind here.

Greg, thank you. I will continue like that, only with a little more trash. I take it easy, only doing small portions at a time and the step back and see if it looks right.

Mal, I am using Heki wild grass #1840 and #1861, Heki meadow grass mountain grass #1594 and some foliage from Woodland Scenics for the bigger bushes.

jwb, I will have two signal cantilever bridges at the crossing. The relay case on my layout looks exactly like the one I found at the prototype location.

Wow Kurt! You've certainly captured the look of an industrial area! I'm going to have to start stocking up on grass, weeds, etc.!

Fantastic..!!! All that junk and grass/shrubbery really brings it to life.

Any plans to "age" the buildings..??

Awesome work, ill have to steal some of your ideas for my NY&A layout. Also going back to the crossing signals, I noticed along the Bushwick Branch the crossing signal lights (if any) are up on the bridge only. You've got a great eye for detail so i'm sure you already knew that but just incase. I have the NJ International crossing signals and could not figure out how to remove the lights from the mast, so if you do go that route do a how to haha

Thanks Kurt.

I've also used Heki grass mats but I found their large range of grass mats and colors to be a bit confusing, so your reply is very helpful.
Heki products are expensive but the quality and realism is superb for grass and weeds.

Thank you all for your kind comments.

Ed, looking forward to seeing you to start to build your switching layout.

Gus, the structures are far from being finished, they are not even painted yet. They’ll sure get some weathering treatment.

Bob, I will scratchbuild the cantilever signal bridges (from brass tubes and wires) and I want to use the lights from Detail West crossing signals.

Mal, you are right, Heki grass mats are not cheap, but similar products from Bush, Noch or WS are even pricier (at least here in Germany). Fortunately my layout is small, so three mats (one of each that I mentioned) is enough for my entire layout.
