I would suggest not using the stone as it leaves microscopic scratches in the rails which accumulate dirt. I use denatured alcohol and a rag when it needs a good scrubbing. Otherwise about once a month or so I run two Bachmann track cleaning cars (the ones with a cleaning pad) -- the lead car has the reservoir filled with denatured alcohol, the following car is dry to scrub the rails dry. Works like a charm, especially in the hard to reach places. If you do a search on this forum for track cleaning, I believe there is a lot of information/posts on this subject. Have a good one!

I use a drop of ATF on each rail about once a month and I only have to clean the areas that I have been working that have got some glue or overspray on them. Before I tried this trick I was having to clean the track weekly. It doesn't appear to hurt traction at all.
