The Credit Valley Railway circa 1900

David, yes it is the Forks. The bridge will be redone to fit both the curve of the track and gorge itself. Also the Credit River will start to flow through the area.

Now it is time to stop and inventory exitsing structures and my drawer full of kits, to see what would go where.

I also have a drawer full of trees to start planting, as well as two 4L ice cream tubs full of ground foam, suitable for bushes.

Should find out where the structures go first, doing it prototypically, where the trees are cut down to make room for structures seems not to be the way to go. Icon_lol

Another weekend !!

Let's see, this weekend, I straightened/sorted out the junk under the layout so I could find what is there.
Now things seem to be sorted out into large 30CM x 30CM x 45cm carboard boxes, each with a label. These can be piled 2 high under the layout. Six of them (cardstock, foam (x2), foil, plastic and wood). Under the layout are three plastic shelving units on wheels. Also three short wooden shelving units for small stuff and a desk/workbench are in place under the layout.

On top of the layout, I cut foam for the rear corners and have decided that one should have a cabin, one a farm house and barn that look too small for N Scale, so will do fine in a rear corner (forced perspective). The third corner will have just a rise with trees. Also the first back corner to the right of the door will have a rise and a farm house on it.

Then on Sunday afternoon, I got out the blender and some old sponges my wife used in the kitchen and threw in a bucket when done...

First I removed the green scour side of the sponge and put it in a draw to be used later in tree making.

Cutting the yellow side in quarters, I tossed several pieces into the blender, along with some very watery white glue and some dollar store green paint. Switched the blender up to "Liquify" and gave it several short bursts until it sounded like it was running smoothly.

Taking a strainer and plastic pitcher, I drained the ground foam and then spread it on an aluminium pie plate to dry.

Each blender load became one pie plate load. Each time I went back to the blender I added more watery glue and a different colour of green paint to the mix. I now have 6 pie plates of various green shades drying nicely.

I guess I did have a busy weekend.

But in all the work, I did not get out the camera. 35

WIll,

Great progress! Always time well spent to clean up and organize.

Excellent Andrew.

Yes, things are coming along.

I am going to take the weekend of April 4-5th off from the shop and head to the train show in Lindsay.
Not to sell, but to sit at the NMRA modeler's corner and build.

I will be working on a diorama for the layout, the McLaughlan bottling works. I will be taking two RSLaser Cheltenham Stations, and kitbashing them into an "L" shaped building.

Well........... 2285_

I don't believe it, but the CVR is 100% track laid and wired, including the 19 tortoise switches installed and working. Cheers

Now to run it for awhile and test the trackage. train

Then on to scenery, structures and detailing... My favourite three parts. Big Grin

Update March 29, 2009

Time for another weekly update,

Last week I finished work on the 3D backdrop. I like the final result. In time I will be sealing the joints to make it appear seamless. I continued with the fascia, it is now painted and important features labeled.

Also, continued working on my "terra forming", two of the corners are completed.

As always there are more photos on the website:

Excellent work, Will. And such a fancy setting for it... Thumbsup

Look forward to seeing more...

If you get a chance...I'm sure many of us would like to see pictures of your "bashing" of those stations....

Thanks Steamtrains.

As to "fancy", it has to be or my wife would not let me build it.
You can see right into the train room from the front door of the apartment.

I will be taking the camera down with me next weekend so I can take some progress shots of the bash.

Nice going! I really like that house...the ivy growing up looks great. Is that burlap fabric below the layout? It gives a nice appearance to the layout. Sort of a "natural" look that goes with the country setting of the layout. Nice trestle too!

Herc, thanks.

The building with the Ivy is one of Robin Matthysen's (matthyro) cereal board structures that I inherited when he passed away.

Yes, that is burlap, it is the stuff you put around trees, it is sold in the garden center. I chose it because it has velcro on it so I can keep the skirt together, but still open it and access all the goodies stored under the layout. Big Grin

As for the trestle, I am not happy with it, it was given to me by one of the fellows in the local model RR club, it would not fit anywhere on his new layout. I will be redoing it to span the entire gap, be the proper height and have the proper opening when I finally decide where the river is going to be.

Hey Will,

Nice! I like the extra pictures on the web site too...

What will the two stations become? I am thinking McLaughlin's Bottling Works, but maybe it's something else?

Any hints? Wink Big Grin

Thanks Andrew.

Talk about hitting the nail on the head. Shoot

To our knowledge, there is only one surviving photo of the original bottle works building and it was taken ata distance.

All I know is it was a single story structure so I can bash the stations together and call it the bottling works.

Like I always say, as long as I get the look and feel of the era and area. Goldth

I have one in one of my books. Is it the shot taken from quite far away, and sort of below the track level, so you really only see the roof and upper part of the walls?
