A little update, while I have not had to hire an attorney I have made it known that I will not hesitate to do so. The first adjuster that was assigned the claim said that he knew model rail roading and that everything I had that was damaged was worth $100 total. That guy, quite literally, got thrown out of my home and fired. He was rude, sarcastic, condescending and he seemed to know everything about everything. He was cursing up a storm in front of my kids (even after I asked him to stop), and it was not during an arguement. That is when I physically removed him from the house. Once I contacted his boss and told him how the adjuster had treated me and my wife, they canned him. I hate to see someone lose their job in this economy, but he was begging for it.
The new adjuster is more liberal. The only thing he needs to know about the RR items is a verifiable replacement value, or residual value for the items that can't be replaced. The only contention we have to deal with is settling on a figure for garment restoration, and either cleaning or replacing 4 items of luggage.

Fortunately I was able to get alot of pics before the flood restoration crew got here, otherwise I would have been screwed. I even have pics of one of the restoration guys throwing away the basin for my turntable kit.
A word of advice, if anyone - God Forbid- should have to go through this, get pictures and watch the workers that come in. I have a P2K 0-8-0, which was not touched by the water. It was in the box, on a shelf several feet above the water. I caught one of the cleaners opening the box for it, with his wet, dirty gloves on. That got ugly. Curse

After some arguing, fighting, threatening, and some choice words, the insurance company has finally decided to see things my way. They are covering ALL of the losses. We have it in writing. The check is being processed now. Layout construction should resume soon.

Glad to hear it. Insurance companies will try to get off with as small a payout as you will let them get away with.

Hello Matt, first, the bold type is for my use, I'm not shouting at you, just had some Cervical surgery and there appears that there is some nerve damage just 7 weeks ago, and the sight is a bit fuzzy. Can I assume you are in Fling Mi.? The reason I ask, is I am from Flint as a lad and young man, now living near Kalamazoo. I occasionally get to Linden Mich. about 20 miles South of Flint, to visit my sister, and am thinking the next visit possibly getting together for a short visit? :?: Please advise. Sante Fe,

Don't worry about the font. I am from Flint. I grew up there, but moved in 1999. I lived in Flint, Davison, Mt. Morris, and (it's a small world) Linden, oh yeah, Swartz Creek. I live in the Chicago area now. I used to go to WMU in K-Zoo alot though. Mostly for parties though.
If you are ever in the Chicago area, look me up. I sometimes make it back to MI, but I really avoid it like the plague these days. If I do make it back there, I will let you know, and we can get together for some coffee.

Matt, did you ever get my e-mail? I don't think I ever got a response. Still looking to meet up for a cup of coffee and some railfanning?

And to keep this post on topic...gotten any modeling done lately?

Steve,

I didn't get an email. I would love to get together, but it has to be a M-F thing, and I would have to be back in my neck of the woods by 1630.

The ashpit/conveyor is nearly done. I just have some painting to do, finish construction, and weather it. The Roundhouse is almost done too. I have been without a camera, so no update photos.
How are things going with yours?

Are there many places to railfan down in the Plainfield area? The tracks I know of out there aren't very busy, unless you go to Joilet (I had to spell it that way).

I haven't gotten any modeling done on the layout since my last update post, its been a while. My dad, son and I are all going to IRM this Sun, so hopefully after that I can get something done

The closest tracks to me are EJ&E/CN, but they are not at all busy.

It might be a bit before I do any more with my layout. I got into a wreck at work last night and broke a few ribs, so I am out of commision for a bit.

And I thought I had bad luck! Hope you heal well from the accident and broken ribs!

I got some work done on the layout last night, will be posting in my progress thread very soon, stay tuned!

The EJ&E / CN tracks by you I know are not busy, but I do know that in downtown Joliet the tracks there are very busy...

Matt; Sorry to hear your dented up... but some of my most productive "train time" was when "off-sick"...(now I'm "off-retired", and can't get a thing done !) Hope you heal quickly and completely. Bob C.

Steven, The tracks that run by the Will County Courthouse are busy, but that is a crappy area to hang out in. A bit further south their is a rail/barge transload yard that is busy, but I don't know of any coffee places by it.

Bob,

Thanks. My pride hurts more than my body right now. Bones heal faster too. With broken ribs I find it hard to hunch over a project at my workbench.
I might get the airbrush out and start painting some of my passenger cars though. Just have to get past the first few days after the accident, so my body is a little less tense.

I know that area fairly well, as I used to drive through there a lot for work. Those tracks are busy, but as you said, not the best place to be hanging out

Well, things are not running so smoothly. Again. I got into another work accident and broke a few ribs, so I have done nothing, except assemble some rolling stock items. Since the flood, the layout room has been cleaned up, but nothing has been worked on with any meaning. I started a couple of structures before getting hurt, but have had to set them aside for now.
I have to find another job, once I am cleared to go back to work, then I can work on the layout again.
