Denver, anyone?

Well, have a look:

I know that I'm not crossing that bridge.

Canon City is about 2 hours south of Denver.

In model railroading, there are between six and two hundred ways of performing a given task.
Most modellers can get two of them to work.

OK...So it must be above sea level. 11,000 feet is close to 2 miles. Those pictures are not of a structure 2 miles above ground level.

The depth of the Royal Gorge under the bridge is 1100'. The Gorge itself at that point is about 7,000' above sea level.

We're in the Rocky Mountains - we have "passes" that are over 11,000 ' in altitude. 8-)

BTW - the bridge sways in the wind as you walk over it, and the wind is almost always blowing. A lot of flatlander tourists turn green and some occasionally hurl. Icon_lol

I sure wouldn't cross a bridge that's so high and swaying with the wind...
I like to walk on firm ground... Goldth

Gettin' ready to kick this off in a little less than a week. I have Monday evening and most of Tuesday setup to go train-watching with a friend from the area before my work obligation. The following Tuesday I'm driving from Denver down to Pueblo, and plan to stop in Palmer Lake to wait for a few trains. Wednesday morning is another work obligation, but I hope to be trackside again that evening around Pueblo before driving back to Denver. Have another work obligation on Thursday, but should have most of Friday free for train-watching before flying home.

Should be a long coal train about every twenty minutes or so at Palmer Lake, if they're not all held up waiting for the junction to clear. Track goes from double to single at Palmer Lake.

There's a nice park there that allows up close railfanning in comfort, and a couple of restaurants as well.

Well my Pueblo meeting is canceled, but I still have the hotel and rental car for the night. I guess I'll do a little more exploring on the Joint Line now.
