Today's progress has been slim, unfortunately, but progress is progress.

The factory has had the roof and some details added to the wooden extension. Just some roof details to add now and it's ready to plant. Smile

Secondly, I have started the safety railings on the coal trestle (photos to come once they are finished and installed), and have also added a bumper to the end. These will be getting some stain once I get home. Smile

This morning's work has been to build and attach the safety railings to the coal trestle. I've still got some crew refuge platforms to build and add in to the gaps in the fences, but otherwise it's mostly complete.

Next job, besides building the refuges, is to build some rooftop details for the factory flat. Busy busy busy!

The color of the stained wood matches the stones very good. It looks like one unit.

Thanks chaps!

Roof details on the factory are pretty much done. I've since added some wooden trim to the roof edges to hide the joins in the texture papers - the idea is that it's to stop things rolling off the roof Tongue

This structure is pretty much done - minus the weathering - which means now I can focus on getting the backscene done so I can plant this building. Smile

Enough waffling from me, here are the pictures Big Grin

Right now I'm passing the time making pallets/skids out of scraps of wood left over from making the railings on the trestle and factory roof. Smile

Looks like something the Klampetts would have built! Outstanding!! Thumbsup

What would have gone into that long, thin pie wedge at the end of the building? It's got windows, so... :?:

Thanks MountainMan, but I am not sure who the Klampett's are! Sorry!

The wedge shaped building is part of the processing factory for the Handy Co. Once the scenic backdrop is in place the plant will be much larger and it should look a lot more obvious, but I've got a lot of work to do there before it'll start to make sense - I need to add an ultra-low relief factory building along the backdrop, probably using the Clevermodels Warehouse building, OR the American Pipe Company mill building, I've not decided on that yet. I might mock up both and see which I prefer. Smile

Having just got home from work, I've placed all the structures on the extension and snapped the below picture - it's really starting to come together now! Smile

This afternoon I've been working on the backdrop flats.

I've also managed to get a base coat of green on the travelling crane.

Some more supplies arrived last night, with some more on route.

I also nipped out to a lumber dealer this morning and picked up a load of 2x1's to get the legs made. Unfortunately they didn't have any MDF to make a fascia from. Sad

So what has arrived?

Details West trackside telephone, some wall mounted mailboxes, JL Innovations soda machines and cases, a pack of steps and ladders, an Intermountain ACF hopper and a Bowser woodchip car kit. Oh, and some Prasier factory workers.

Not a lot to report this morning, as I didn't really get chance to do a lot yesterday.

I did make and fit a fence around where the derelict garage is going to sit, and swarmed it in greenery. Smile

I also applied some static grass to the extension and made up some creeping vines from poly fibre and ground foam/noch leaves. On top of that, I removed the rail bumper from the end of the handy co spur on West Allen Street ready for the track to be extended into the Handy Co board, and fitted a decoder to a Proto 2000 GP7.

Some more supplies arrived yesterday, a box of 10 freight cars, and an AHM Grusom Casket Co kit (remember those? Big Grin) - that will be getting kitbashed and the David Rarig treatment of covering it in clevermodels textures to improve the horribly oversized brickwork.

The freight cars are all Roundhouse, and all needed knuckle couplers - which put a considerable dent in my supplies - but they worked out at £1.30 each, and are mostly Appalachian paint schemes - L&N/SCL, B&O/C&O, Clinchfield, etc. The Cotton Belt and WM cars will likely end up getting repainted at some point, but for now they are there if I need them. Smile

I also won another Ebay bid last night - an SPSF gondola, a box car, a 4 car articulated TOFC set and 4 semi trailers to go on the back of them, all for £15 delivered. I'm happy, as I was planning on putting a TOFC ramp on the next extension to the layout, so that's just gravy! Smile

I've got a LOT of cars to weather before the end of the month! Big Grin

This afternoon I've managed to decal one side each on a pair of freight cars, and have installed decoders in a pair of locos. As such, meet the latest additions to the fleet:

Later on, I plan on progressing the ground cover on the extension using DAS modelling clay, but photos of that will have to wait until it's cured and painted. Smile

This afternoon's progress isn't anything flashy, I managed to finish the decals on the Beercan tank car, cut the timber for and built the legs for the Handy Co extension, removed the scenery at the end of the linking spur on West Allen Street ready to fit the track to link it to Handy Co, and have gathered up all my supplies to do some projects tonight on my lunch break at work.

As such, more to come later.

Today's work so far has been pretty varied, with a roof added to the metals unloading shed, the crane painted and weathered (complete with bird poop!), some ladders painted ready to go on the fire escape on the factory building, some 7mm scale brick embossed styrene spray painted to represent HO scale cobblestones, the scrap bins for Singer Auto on Thawne painted, some more decal work done on the woodchip hopper and beercan tank car, and a few other little bits.

Oh, and I've applied modelling clay to the hardstanding in the metals unloading spur, as well as to the ramp leading down to the coal yard.

Hopefully some more odd jobs will get done tonight. Smile
