now for the more serious side . I've posted several old mining photos her are two of the modern way to mine called long machine, the machine is in this mine 1500 ft long cuts 8 t0 9 ft high 42 inches wide.

that's for coal? I am claustrophobic enough that I never care to see such an operation in real life!

yes it does beat a pick and shovel by miles when i first went to work at this mine there were 470+ hourly hands and out put was 1.5 to 1.9 million tons a year . the last full year i worked ,there 147 hourly miners with this machine 3 million tons a year.

I worked underground for 8 years in total , being underground is no differnet than being in a room , 3 walls with many support bolts and screening where there was alot of loose. Cheers

we had several claustrophobics working at the mine, no problem underground but shut them in a 8 by 8 room and katy bar the door.
