Smoke detectors usually jangle your nerves when battery life came to it's end and the voltage drops low. Renew battery and then it should be quiet.
Battery life of special 9V blocks are about 10 years here.
In one case i found a spider at a "strategical" spot within the smoke detector and every time it moves, it triggered the alarme. Night time preferred of course
