Steamtrains Wrote:Just a thought...Will there be some opening where one might get a peek at the interior decor..??

Thanks.
Yep. Three walls are going to be "Plate glass". Thats why I added pictures on the wall, and self serve ticket machine and ATM. Planning on adding a couple of benches, and maybe a couple of commuters. The waiting area will also be lighted.
OK...Finished cutting out all the walls. Framing the waiting area openings.

Window frames finished and painted. I made everything longer so I could trim to fit.

Next, I worked on lighting. Since this was a modern commuter version, I wanted to light the waiting area, and restrooms.

The first thing I did was cut two sections of Evergreen tubing. Then, I tied the leads for the grain of wheat bulbs in a knot on both ends.
[attachment=2207]

Next, I drilled a hole in the "ceiling". After which I glued a piece of Evergreen .010" clear styrene over the hole.
[attachment=2206]
[attachment=2205]

Glued the lights to the ceiling. The one facing the rear is to light up the restroom area.
[attachment=2204]

When that was drying, I cut a short section of Evergreen square tubing, then cut out one side. I glued a piece of scrap styrene to one end and made a light box.
[attachment=2203]

After spray painting the inside of the "box" black, I glued it over the top of the bulb over the waiting area. I added another short section of tubing to act as a conduit. This is the finished "ceiling".
[attachment=2202]

I'm going to use a headphone jack as a quick disconnect for the lights. This is a replacement jack that I picked up at Radio Shack for a couple of bucks.The 1880 version that I will build next will have one also. This will make it easier connecting power for the lights when I change eras. The 1880 version will have only one bulb in the office area. But I have to wait until I start scenery work on the location, before I can connect the jacks..

Looking good 88 Thumbsup Thumbsup Like the idea of lighting the interior, somthing i wanna start doing but never really think about when im building the kits, and then i finish and it comes to me, ahhhh Curse Curse Curse Curse i forgot to add lights as i was building LOL

BTW, looks like you need some more plastic cement Misngth
Thanks TL.
Ok.....
More done.
Spray Painted the inner restroom walls black, to act as a light shield.
[attachment=2212]

Assembled the walls. The door you see here is "decorative", and is there to keep the look of the original station. The trim boards were cut longer and will be trimmed to size after painting.
[attachment=2211]

Constructed the base for the station. Here I'm using Holgate and Reynolds plastic "brick" sheet I had on hand. I don't think they are in business anymore as I couldn't find a listing for them anywhere. I'm using those "clips" you can get at office supply stores as clamps.
[attachment=2210]
OK..Did some more.

Measured, cut, fit and painted(no pic) the roof. I used Rix Products "Shingles", plastic sheet. Like all the other Rix products, its easy to work with.
[attachment=2232]

Next, using Evergreen .080" x .080" styrene strip, I made a ceiling support. Also added the inetrior wall. The tube in the restroom area is for the lighting wire.
[attachment=2231]
Added the window frames, and platform door.
[attachment=2230]
[attachment=2229]
[attachment=2228]
Then did some temporary placement of the interior details.

What it should look like, looking through the windows.

Thanks Gus.

That looks fantastic. I love the interior details Worship ... Man, you all will have finished your challenges before I even start.
Looking great!!

Don't worry, i cant start yet either - I'm waiting on a delivery fron america, that could take up to 3 weeks to arrive.
Thanks guys.
Didn't do anything today, so you guys gotta an extra day to catch up.
Ok Kurt and Tom. I gave you guys a couple of days to get going.

Tonight, I worked on the platform and handicap ramp.
Heres a tip, I put all the interior details in one of those display cases that came with my HO scale NASCAR diecast. (I got quite a few) Other HO scale cars like you get from Wally World or Target are the same. This will keep all the details I'm going to use on this project together. They also come in handy when painting rolling stock, as you can put the trucks in them also. I also use them for my Kadee coupler kits, small screws, small drill bits..Heck..if it fits I use one of these.
[attachment=2263]

Here, I'm just about done doing the handicap ramp. I'm using .040" Evergreen styrene for the ramp, with Evergreen .080" x .080" strip for supports and strength.
[attachment=2262]
I added a stairway on the opposite side. I scavenged this off an old Walthers warehouse kit, that had fallen off the shelf a couple of times.
[attachment=2261]
Fisnished putting together the handicap ramp. I will sand down all the rough spots, and paint it a concrete color. Just have to finish the other side of the pltaform first.
[attachment=2260]
[attachment=2259]
Tonight, I added "glass" to the inside wall.
[attachment=2280]

I also pre cut, and fit the rest of the "glass" for the waiting area. I'm using Evergreen .020" Clear styrene for the windows. Really can't see the clear plastic, but I used blue tape to mark the location each piece is going. I then wrapped them up in tissue paper and stored them in my "accessory bin".
[attachment=2279]

Here, is the underside of the platform, showing the styrene strip used for strength. I tell you what, those hanging paper clips sure do come in handy.
[attachment=2278]

Test fitting the roof.
[attachment=2277]

All the sub-assemblies, ready for detail painting, and finish assembly. I find doing sub-assembly when scratch building makes it easier for painting. Lot less masking and taping.
