The design of the bunks are from a photo that I barrowed of lNE #582s interior from about 1943/44. Only one side was clearly shone, the bunk was just a flat surface with a pad on it. I used it to get the cabinet shapes and locations, It's the one with the 2 large cabinets on the sides and draws in thew middle. The other one is a best guess I made from the shot. I don't know if it is standard practice or not, but 582 seams to be the oddball in the bunch. I'm not trying to get an exact match to the prototype , just good enough to make people think it is 8-) .

PS; I should have explained that I made the pads from a paper towel folded over a few times and painted Roof Brown. All the pics I've seen of the insides were black & white so even my colors are just what I thought looked right.
Prototypical or not, it looks good and the colours look plausible to me, too.
Nice work on the interior details, Steve: I particularly like the pencil. Eek Of course, now I'm going to have to model my caboose with all the shades pull right down, as the paucity of interior detail would certainly embarrass my crews. Misngth

I added some more smaller details, here is #582. The figures are the most obvious, but I've also added a shovel in the coal bin, tools on the bench, and a broom next to the stove.
In # 580 We have a coal bucket, some boards and a shovel at one end.[attachment=4570]

And a meeting of the minds at the other.[attachment=4569]

this shot shows how the glazing looks after it drys.[attachment=4568]
This is O gauge, right?

The details are amazing!
It is amazing how figures bring a scene to life! Great job on the details!

Very nice work! The details are incredibly well done. Love the meeting of the minds! Looks like one of the guys is telling quite a whopper of a story!
To keep with the 1940's them I just had to add some pin up art and a wooden portable radio. So I did some web searching for some images , reduced them down to HO scale, and gave them a home. For the radio I glued the pic to a piece of strip wood, stained it, and added a handle.[attachment=4581]

As this was going on the paint shop started on the marker lights. They are the only parts that I purchased for this contest.[attachment=4580]

The rear of the bunks was really bugging me, They just looked unfinished. I had some left over wood veneer from the last kit bash challenge, that got cut to size and glued in to fill the back of the bunk to hide the weights.[attachment=4579]
Here are the pin ups and radio installed. You can also see the rear of the bunks.[attachment=4582]

The light at the end of the tunnel is almost visible, It's been lots of fun, but I'll be happy when It's finished.
Fantastic work again! These additions make it more realistic Cheers
Hmmmmm, That glass, looks like it was designed 25% larger than it needed to be. Big Grin Big Grin

The resolution, on the radio, and the pinups is excellent! I will have to reference your build, when I start interior details for the boathouse kit I'm about to build.

Very nice!!! Thumbsup Thumbsup
Those were the days ...Huh?
You could hang a picture of a half naked girl on the wall and no one would say boo...
Today.......

Great work!

No, I'd bet it's the GERN flux additive in the glass itself that just makes it seem 25% larger, and 3% shinier too!

Now...you are going to light the interior of this car so viewers can appreciate all that work, right? Icon_lol

One of my neighbors, just up the street, left his garage door up.......looks like the garage wall is "papered" with Playboy centerfolds. Not everyone is "politically correct".......thank God for little favors.........and every once in a while, some "big favors" Wink

That's some amazing detailing. Internet searches and colour printing are great tools here.
