Just an update. There's nothing significant done that will show up in a photo, so I've listed what I've been doing just in case you've been thinking that I'm slogging off:

  1. All the track is down
  2. All the rail joiners are soldered (well, except for the insulated ones Misngth )
  3. All the wiring has been pulled and wired to terminal blocks at one end
Next thing on my list to do is soldering the wires to the tracks
"so I've listed what I've been doing just in case you've been thinking that I'm slogging off:"

Your allowed to slog off, it's a hobby! Icon_lol
Just an update, I wasn't going to post any pics since the progress I've made isn't worthy of photographing, but just a couple as proof that I am working and not slogging off. 35 790_smiley_picking_a_fight I've finishing up the wiring and terminating it on terminal blocks. I've also checked out the wiring and started to run trains one block at a time just to be sure. My goal this week is to replace all the missing ties, weather the rails and ties and start on the ballasting. Oh yeah, I added a small hilltop on one corner of the layout since it just was crying out for one and also extended the layout in front so it was straight across.

Maybe now I can get some sleep without that corner crying out like a baby... Icon_lol Icon_lol Icon_lol

One of these days, I'll be able to show some real progress, I hope.... Misngth

It's been a while since I checked in. That doesn't mean I'm not doing anything, it just means that there isn't anything I'm doing that warrants posting photos. I have started on the ballasting and probably the only thing worth talking about at this point is the tools that I'm using. Aside from the using the usual spoons, fingers and brushes, I found a few of these dispensers at our local 99 cent store. I think one is normally used for oil or vinegar at the table and I'm not sure what the other one is used for, but it has an adjustable pipe making it easy to reach some places. The smaller one is good because it dispenses slowly and best for inside the tracks while the other goes faster and works better at each side. Those and the usual, a spray bottle of 91% alcohol, diluted glue and brushes finishes off the job.

Don you have my best wishes with what you are doing. If there is one thing I hate more than soldering it's ballasting! Curse

Thanks Mike, soldering is OK, I did that for some 50 years and so it's no problem. Laying track and ballast, that's another story. It's a lot of grunge work and there/s just too many ways to screw it up. Icon_lol Icon_lol
Just for the record, I will not include myself in the poll this time. I usually do if I work at it, but somehow I am not happy with the results and I don't have enough time or energy right now to redo those parts that I'm not happy with. I have other issues that I'm dealing with that are a bit more important right now and modeling has taken a back seat for a while. I did achieved something though, I have my track down and wired, and about 80% of the ballasting done, just about half of the ballasting needs to be reworked though, and that kind of sucks....
Just keep in mind it's a hobby and not a race. Take your time and rework it when you are in the mood and you will be happy down the road even though you aren't now.

Yup, that's the way it should be. There are higher priorities, I know when we get here we don't think so, but then we come back to the real world and wake up to the reality of what other things face us. I will get it done to my liking and I will show it once I put in some real scenery and other things that I really enjoy doing. I've alway said that trackwork is my nemesis and is not my favorite thing to do.
