A few more pictures from a pedestrian standing point.

Some update about Lairet Station.

I've been working on the doors and windows. Doors were made out of Tichy sash windows. I used card and styrene sheet to get them right. Sash were painted cream according to CN pre-1960 practice.

Next step is building the roof and covering it with asphalt shingles.

I decided to recreate the JD Chrysler Billboard pasted on the station. Except "565 Boul. Hamel" most of the text is purely educated guess! Image quality was crappy as can be.

The building looks great!
Yes, it is really looking very good. I was most amazed how precise you made the cuts in the two layers of the walls.
The door construction is very clever!!!! Thumbsup

Don't be fooled! In most cases, it was very precise (I used the same CAD drawing for reference), but in some case, I had to chisel out some white material... particularly for the new doors.

Some more progress at Canardière Road overpass. That scene is taking forever to get done, but that's the price to pay to be prototypical as can be. Only when the bridge will be done and the road completed we will be able to move forward and start relaying the track.

I won't be reusing the concrete bridge I once done of that overpass. I used Rix overpass as a basis and it wasn't exactly looking like the real thing. Here you can see what it looks like:

The new one will be built in similar fashion but with the right dimensions and without using the Rix parts (except the iron railings). Louis really did a fantastic job on the Art Deco central pillar. Hard to tell he got that result with a table saw. I only need to smooth it and add details. You can also see the new overpass part made of MDF.

Finally, this morning I built the overpass sides with styrene. I went better than I first thought. It's my third try building this overpass, I guess experience is pay off! Also, the picture show a nice view of the central pillar.

When all parts will be done, I'll rough them up a little bit to make them look like very distressed concrete. The overpass was refurbished about 20 years ago, which means it was probably in bad shape in back in the late 70s (it was originally built in 1931 to give job during the 30s recession).

Matt,
I just read the whole thread. Besides the excellent modeling, I like the way you re-think things that aren't working or fun. And of course the Q & A's between you and the members here is an education in itself!
Lairet Station is a knockout btw Thumbsup

Keep up the great work! Thumbsup Thumbsup Thumbsup Thumbsup
Steve, thanks for your comments. Rebuilding a layout and revisting ideas isn't an easy task. We've got a lot of harsh criticism recently from visitors and it's nice to see virtual ones have more empathy! ;-) I'm pretty satisfied with the new rebuilding process. We've learn a lot from experience and it's nice to know better what we are doing.

Question to any body.

Carnadière Road overpass needs lots of stanchions to make the railing seen on old pictures. I mean something like 180-200 stanchions. The most suitable ones would be 10mm model boat 3-ball stanchions. We are talking here about over 200$ of investment... for pedestrian railing!

I'm looking either for alternatives or a way to buy them in bulk, not just in small 10-pack. Any ideas (other than solderings thousands of brass parts)?

Thanks

Matt
After looking around, it seems like if you were willing to go with a 2 line rail, you would have more cost effective options. How long is the run?
The overpass is great!

dito!
Nice work !!! I have never seen a RR overpass that fancy !!!!
Thanks everybody.

Mmmm, that could be a decent option, I don't think it would impact the authenticity that much. I need about 48 inches of railing. I'm curious to hear about your proposition.
