I just down loaded an older version of Photo Shop for free. I cant understand anything about it. Can someone help?
Les, see if there are some tutorials on youtube. It is a great program, but very hard to explain how to use. I never got past the basics. Too many other things to do, but I will say you can save alot of pictures that otherwise are junk. What version did you get?
Charlie
cs2 version 9. It is a free download from Adobe. The tutorial file that is included starts off about a bridge but I can't find it.
Les start by playing with the levels in a picture, so you know what each tool does. You can use levels to adjust the blue, red and green. You can select an area and work in the selection box.
I have been playing with elements, not the full version, but it does all I want to do.

Les, I would be very careful using that download if I were you. The so called "free" download version of CS2 is only meant for registered users of CS2, who already have purchased a valid license and need to reinstall the software for any reason. You can read more about it here:

Not trying to be a spoil sport here, I would very much like to have the full version of Photoshop myself, but I just don't want you to get into trouble later on.

Nice catch Svein, that could get a bit hairy. I was ready to jump on that "free" thing until I saw your post. :o There are more simpler free photo edit programs, that can do most anything we need for posting here, and there are several that are at a much lower cost than Photoshop. I've been using PhotoPlus for a long time. I used to get it free since I was a beta tester, but I gave that up a long time ago. I just purchased version X5 for $25 that included a lot of extra software, all on two CD's, plus a hard copy manual. Of course, when I went to their web site, I find that they just released X6, at a much higher price, but that's OK, this version has more than I need anyway.

You can get a free copy of PhotoPlus, and a lot of their other software that I'm sure are either older versions or have some features restricted, but I was using a much older version for years anyway, and it was still adequate for my needs. You can find it all right here:

i have tried to contact Adobe about this but I can't figure out how.
Les,

I would give you advise but then I would regret it for all the steam pics you would be posting Icon_lol I just used the help files that were part of Photoshop, a lot of trial and error. It depends on what you want to do, but using CS2 for simple image editing is IMHO total overkill. There are plenty of good alternatives out there, many of which are also free. Depending on what camera you have, you may already have some nice software bundled with it.

I use mostly the software that came with my Canon camera, called Digital Photo Professional, where I do most of my editing (adjusting exposure, color temperature, contrast and cropping) before exporting the file (I shoot only in RAW mode) to an old version of Photoshop Elements (came bundled with an old Canon flatbed scanner I bought years ago) for resizing, converting to JPG and compressing. I could do that in DPP too, but I find PE is more user friendly with that particular operation. Another great free software I use occasionally is IrfanView.
