Wow the work your doing is really making this a very special layout, and I mean that in a good way. Cheers
Quote:So there you have it, for better or worse, and it will sit on the water bay-side in the new industrial area to be developed at...... Hmmm..... forgot .... I need a name for the dock area.

How about "OB Harbour"...Fitting it should have the name of its creator.... Thumbsup

Thanx Gus that's a nice complement but I reckon I would feel a tad awkward about it.
Maybe it could be called something like "Faraway" Bay /Harbour, Then we could have a layout with the combined names of the..... PistonBroke and Far-away...
....or the ......FarfrmHome Port, so it would be the..... PistonBroke and FarfrmHome Line. 357
OK, I'll stick to my day job, right?

Thanks for dropping by Lynn, I sure appreciate comments from the Master. I follow your layout and your builds with great interest . Cheers right back atcha man.

Jack 219
Jack,
I am totally in awe of your workmanship!! You are a real inspiration!! I don't always stop by, but when I do, I usually start on page one, just so I don't miss anything!! Great work!! Love your sense of humor!! (have you ever thought about writing for a living, or as a hobby?)
Thanks for dropping by sarge, and I thank you for your comments, I feel I should try to seem a little more professional in my approach.... fact is I am probably trying to mask my public shyness and my "newness" to all things trains in my blabberings, but what the heck.... its who I is.
At the moment I can't spend as much time here as I like, but I hope you guys are enjoying the ride.

So, to continue.... some time ago, while out trying to buy or build a new residence or business close to the PistonBroke line, 24 ..... so as to encourage people to come to live and work in the area, and so be able to encompass all the advantages that that has to offer,...... we stumbled upon an old Hotel in Idaho. Cheers

Originally built in the early 1900s and replicated by Bar Mills a few years back, we saw an opportunity to purchase the building and renovate it,.... and bring it back to its former glory. Thumbsup

And here it is Flat packed and ready for reconstruction
[Image: 100_2422.jpg]

It has a base on which it is built

So first things first
[Image: 100_2423.jpg]

Apparently the windows were originally in 5 bits which required assembling, now thanks to technology we have a one piece window.
The new age has finally caught up with the builders also. For the first time the airbrush, which has been sitting alone on the bench for a year, had its first run, and it didn't hurt a bit. I don't know what I was scared of, but with a bit of practice I could get to like it. 2285_
So here it is,.... Jacks first bit of airbrushing ... (And this is without Tetters new and improved airbrush station which I hope to copy one day)

for better or worse, its easier for the builders
[Image: 100_2441.jpg]

Then after a primer coat

The walls got a taste of .."The Brush"

And an Ink was tried for the wood colour around the base
[Image: 100_2444.jpg]

And to finish off tonight the balustrade was a peel and stick affair in three pieces Each of which were stuck one on top off the other, so as to give a 3D effect

Here is the before
[Image: 100_2445.jpg]

And after
[Image: 100_2447.jpg]
and
[Image: 100_2449.jpg]

The "War Office" has had enough of the old and peeling paint effect, and has decided that the renovation will be done right. :hey: So it's a proper paint job, and a bright colour scheme in the offing boys.
So with the "War Office" breathing fire, its off to the paint shop to have a play with this new fangled air brush to try and get it right.......
.......there was a lot of balustrade to paint come morning.

Jack 219
Looks like an awesome kit, and I look forward to wathcing you build it, you do great work.
You are too kind Jg Thanks.

Now for the making of this building, The War Office :hey: wanted the final say on the colour scheme
"I want a new paint job , not that old weathered look ...." [Image: Cynder_Fire__Cynder_Thedragon_by_PerrythePlatypus.gif] Well at least that's what I think she said, so no arguments coming from this side. Nope

Ok so the next night I went and splashed a bit of green paint all over the hotel balustrade and the airbrush certainly made that job a lot easier. 2285_

But first a few walls to knock together
[Image: 100_2460.jpg]

With windows attached of course
[Image: 100_2461.jpg]

The base has an open frame ..

SO I covered it with black paper
[Image: 100_2464.jpg]

Apparently the prototype had an addition to the Hotel at some stage with this office being attached to the end with a resultant balcony being created above it,
Also the front decking has been applied
[Image: 100_2470.jpg]

It's starting to look a bit like a hotel
[Image: 100_2472.jpg]

Next was the second floor balcony
[Image: 100_2475.jpg]

And
[Image: 100_2476.jpg]

The ground floor posts and balustrade goes on
[Image: 100_2477.jpg]

Then the top
[Image: 100_2479.jpg]
Got a few curtains happening as well
Plus some rafters on there 2285_
[Image: 100_2480.jpg]

Before the roof goes on there are some rafters to be applied to the underside
[Image: 100_2481.jpg]
And
[Image: 100_2482.jpg]

Just a quick sneak around the back to see if anyones working
[Image: 100_2506.jpg]

Hmmm nope....... Nope No one still working, but the Boss made sure his sign was prominent.
Ah well better go find this dude and get 'em back to work.

Jack 219
Checking back this morning I see a bit more work has happened.
Money must be tight .. Cheers ..the boys , they back on the job again.
A roof section is ready to go
[Image: 100_2482.jpg]

Now there be two already
[Image: 100_2488.jpg]

At this point the electrician came along to experiment with some LEDs, not wanting a bright light, but more of an overall feeling of some one living there. Not sure of the outcome, but we will see....
The Red light may have some significance to late night revelers 357

First the LEDs
[Image: 100_2494.jpg]

Then a false floor and a divider
[Image: 100_2495.jpg]

Looks pretty deserted in a run down part of town late at night with no lights...

Electricians still not finished by the looks...

Daylight again ...Just...

And roof is on
[Image: 100_2508.jpg]

One end
[Image: 100_2510.jpg]

And the back side
[Image: 100_2511.jpg]

waited for the light to get better
[Image: 100_2515.jpg]

And
[Image: 100_2517.jpg]

Sorry about all the photos, the dude got a bit carried away with the camera. but I think the chimneys are on and steps are made now, so if I can find that camera guy again... hang on..

Ahhh here we go
[Image: 100_2518.jpg]

And it will probably stay somewhere around here on the main street of PistonBroke
[Image: 100_2552.jpg]

Jack 219
That's an awesome structure, I just love it, and nice work!
Nice work, Jack, Thumbsup Thumbsup and a good-looking structure. I especially like those partially opened windows. Goldth

Wayne
SWEET!!!! Don't ever apologize for "too many photos." It is not possible to post too many photos.
That's a stunning structure.....!! Thumbsup
Are you sure "The Commision" wouldn't allow just a teenie bit of weathering..?? Goldth Like a couple of soot streaks running a bit down the roof from the chimneys..?? And a smudge here and there..??
Thanks Doc , Russ and jg for dropping by, and for the words of encouragement guys. I appreciate the input. Cheers
Russ,I worry about the photos taking up download time for some, but then I guess you fellas are a bit more advanced in your internet speeds than those of us stuck down here in the antipodes. Misngth But it is a lot easier to write in pictures than in print.
Doc an JG, I too liked the build. The balustrade seems to give it a very 3D sort of detailed look.

I am on your side 'trains Maybe when hell freezes over ......or I catch the War Office on one of her good days.( which ever comes first ) we will attempt it. Big Grin

Until I find the next building project these Kramer Boys ( who I hope you may meet one day ) did, ....Adios, keep the coal burning and keep the wheels oiled. 2285_

Jack 219
That is great Jack!
How about a couple more night shots?

Loren
