Here is my orphan:

Is there an award for the most times a project has been started and orphaned? I have abandoned this little engine at least three times. Begun over at the Yardbird Trains Yahoo Group in 2006, then picked up here in late 2008, then considered again for my 2010 End of the Year challenge, it has languished on the workbench for almost seven years.

What has brought this back is a long story - suffice it to say I'm back and in the process of re-engaging with the hobby publicly beyond the occasional post here and there. I'm on a month long sabbatical leave from work following a good case of burnout. I've lost nearly 20 lbs since the beginning of the year, gotten my office organized and decluttered (mostly), and am continuing to address the many fronts of decluttering our home. Our lawn and garden are coming along very well. Now it is time to refocus on the trains, specifically, to get trains running again!

That involves clearing the clutter from the train room, clearing off the layout, finishing the wiring for the track currently laid, and getting one of my many orphan steamers running again. I think the best deserved of the whole bunch is this little shifter.

Recently I purchased pre-wired LEDs from Evan Designs and will be using those in this project. I have the lettering from Rail Graphics and will be painting and lettering the locomotive once the detailing is complete in the cab interior.

I'm glad there are three months to tackle this. I am on leave until July 7, but have got summer plans for vacation time in August, plus summer in Western Washington...well, you don't want to miss the sun when it is out.

Look for more progress later in the month - I'm in no hurry to get this one done as there is still much to do to prepare (or is that repair?) my hobby space.
