I haven't been here much lately. I started reading through this thread, but don't have time to finish it right now. You might look at La Puente/City of Industry bounded on the north by the Interstate 10, on the south by the 60 freeway, to the west the 605 freeway and to the east by the 57 freeway. A lot of the industries that used to be in Vernon moved because the street access was too narrow to allow easy use of the 48 and 43 foot trailers that are now commonly used by the trucking industry. Another area that has a lot of "shoebox" style warehouses on the U.P. would be around U.P.'s Colton yard (exS.P.) in Fontana, Colton, and Ontario. This would be just west of San Bernardino and south of the mountains.

Hi Russ, I have moved the layout in April from "shoebox West" to "brick East" The layout became freelance in the 1970s and 1980s. I use a bunch of photos of the West Bottoms in KC, MO for reference how a brick warehouse district might have been but stay freelance.

The Downtown Deco kit of the front building arrived. It is a nice one but the rear side (top photo) with the ugly gaps will be the front side on my layout. All walls are buckled. preventing a nice fit. I have to fill the gaps and cover them with down spouts etc.



I was afraid to ruin the stone structure with plaster when filling the gaps.
The trick is easy, put two stripes of scotch tape at both sides of the gap and fill the gap as you like, Just stay on the tape.

You get a nice result when you remove the tape. A wet finger provides the last touch


A first test at the planned position

Today was painters day. I will proceed with details tomorrow. It is amazing to see how the white wall changes totally when you put the first layer of diluted paint on it. The grooves get darker and the stones moves a tiny bit out of the wall. You should really give it a try.
The walls did not fit very well because they are distorted. I had to add downspouts as recommended in the instructions. The dominating lettering makes a difference

Last details and weathering done and a sidewalk added. That completes this building.






The paper signs got well protected with dull coat... at least I thought so. As you see did the black wash find it's way to the inject printer ink af the signs
I am waiting for a similar Downtown kit to replace the background building.

Such beautiful canyons shouts out the "urban" in urban industrial leads.

Wonder if a garment company as big as yours was ever served by rail? The building looks likec it's screaming for a it's own spur!

Integration into the ground cover and adding some "stuff" is always a pleasant job.

I had to wait about 2 weeks, ordered from AAT. Don't be confused if AAT's web side lacks some kits found on Downtown Deco's side. Just ask Mr. Hartmann to get them for you.
