We traveled to Des Monies to visit the Iowa State Fair Friday and Saturday for little nostalgia and fun. We haven't lived in Iowa since 1982. It was a good time that was highlighted by finding the Central Iowa Model Railroad Club's large layout on the fairgrounds. I didn't think to take my camera along but I found a YouTube video some one else filmed of the layout so you can see what it looks like. Parts are still under construction but the majority is finished and well done. I was talking to one of the club members and, after he learned I'm a molder, he invited inside the display area to see parts of the layout most of the public doesn't get to see. He was also the guy who built that amazing steel trestle scene featured in the video . They were a very welcoming bunch of guys.

Switching at the east end. Photos like this show the lack of details of my layout. There is still lots of work to be done Smile

The N Scale Architect offers a nice-looking model of that tower, and it can accurately represent 10 of the 18 prototypes, including South Orange, Binghamton (west end), Factoryville, Alford, Slateford, West Hallstead, New Milford Summit, Gouldsboro, Kingsley, and Clarks Summit.
My apparent Misngth "knowledge" of Lackawanna concrete towers was gleaned from a review of the kit in the May 2014 issue of RMC.

Well Doc, the ARHS publication of Flags, Diamonds and Statues did a large in-depth article (about 25 pages) on the Lackawanna's concrete towers. It's still available as a back issue. The article was by Bob Bahrs and appeared is issue Volume 21 number 2. It's a well written article filled with lots of drawings and pictures on the subject,,,, And of course my favorite F-3's on the cover. Big Grin
