Re: Trivia... - sgtcarl1 - 05-09-2009 Steamtrains, don't tell the folks near Springfield Illinois he wasn't born there. They may have to take down the Lincoln house replica!! Re: Trivia... - nkp_174 - 05-09-2009 I do know that "The Colonel" Harland Sanders was a fireman. He was a railroad employee when he took a correspondence course to become a lawyer...and was middle aged before he started his restaurant. My dad learned that from being on an excursion with him. I learned that it was with the IC by searching to find out more about it/confirm the story. That's how I ran across the IC, much to my surprise, to have been his employer. (I thought he worked for the Southern!...I feel kind of cheated that he really was a yankee!) If you search the web for Harland sanders and either railroad or Illinois Central, you'll find plenty of confirmation... Now, I do think that Doctor Wayne is on to something as to the method of preparation Re: Trivia... - cid - 05-09-2009 Well, I will have to bow to the Colonel as being more famous than Casey Jones!! Nobody in Changshu ever heard of Casey Jones, but they have more "ken ta ji" (Kentucky) restaurants than they have McDonald's! Re: Trivia... - nachoman - 05-09-2009 Interesting. But ya gotta make sure you don't eat too much of that stuff Re: Trivia... - cid - 05-09-2009 Oh, Lord, no, I don't eat it ! My waistline is in enough trouble with a whole country filled with Chinese restaurants ! (of course, they are not called that....) I lead a Bible study with grad students from China and they've told me all about the Colonel's popularity there. Most of them are his fans. |
