Good my picture host came back up!

Re: Name that Layout - COMBAT - 01-31-2010

Hello all. I have been a little busy with real life and have not had time to work on the layout. I have had time though to work on some other projects. I am finding myself hooked on it now. Don't worry, it is still train related just not work on the actual layout. I have discovered with a ton of help from a friend how to put lights in to vehicles. The vehicles lighting system is adjustable too. It can be run off of DC or DCC. As I have done more and more vehicles I made improvements along the way. At first the LED's that were used were not hidden very well in the vehicles. Now the LED's are hidden and the light acutally shines through the vehicles actual head lights, tail lights and even emergency light bars. My lastest vehicle is the Police car shown below. I have also included a video of the cars with the lights running. Think of what this could do for realism on your layout. I hope you enjoy the pictures and enjoy the videos. The pictures DO NOT do the lighting system justice. Let me know what you think. Smile Feed back is welcome! Take care!

OH P.S. this is H.O. scale vehicles.

Looks like an incredible amount of work but the results appear well worth it. I'd be interested to learn more about the workings behind the scenes... or rather under the scenes. So what happened there? ...black ice? No, no, not here in Phoenix... She must'a had a drunky pull out in front of her. Hope she was wearing her seatbelt!
Somewhere I saw a well known manufacturer has come out with a kit to lay a wire into the surface and the cars wil follow it. Sounds like you'd be just the person to play around with that. Of course, then, you'd have to carry your power for the lights on board.

Well, it turns out the driver of the truck was pulling that trailer with a truck that was not rated for the load. The fact the tire blew out didnt help matters. The driver was wearing her seat belt which probably saved her life. I'm glad you liked the lighting systems. They all run independent of each other and can be controlled. The car system you are talking about is made by Faller. I have looked at it and even thought about doing it. To much money, to much tearing out whats already there. I think I will stick with a semi animated scene with lights. Smile I wish I could have posted the night shots, but the camera doesnt like all of the flashing lights and darkness. Maybe when I get the vehicles out on the layout and get the street lights and real scenery around the vehicles you will see just how, well in my opinion anyways, realistic the light systems look. Thanks for the comments! Smile

Very cool. I too would like to see the inner workings of it.

Re: Name that Layout - COMBAT - 02-01-2010

Seems like no one is interested. LOL I guess it isnt for everyone. Smile

Re: Name that Layout - TrainNut - 02-01-2010

Give it some time. Seems like attendance has been down a bit lately.
I think it's cool and your modeling skills remind me a lot of the Miniatur Wunderland place over there in Germany!

Re: Name that Layout - COMBAT - 02-01-2010

Thanks for the compliment. It has taken a lot of trial an error to get the look of the police car. Now that I know wait till you see what's coming next! Smile

Re: Name that Layout - nachoman - 02-01-2010

That's pretty spiffy! Reminds me of some micro machine cars that had lights, but yours are about 100 times better.

Re: Name that Layout - LiveSteamer - 02-02-2010

That is very nice. Cheers

Re: Name that Layout - TrainNut - 02-02-2010

I can only imagine how difficult that would be in N scale.

To be honest, I dont think it would be possible with the same results. The parts used to make this work in HO just wont fit in N scale. Its all about the size of the parts and there are times I really want the parts to be smaller then they are now for HO. All of the nice comments are appreciated. If you have questions about the videos, like you cant figure out how to download them please let me know. I would be happy to help. Thumbsup

Re: Name that Layout - COMBAT - 02-03-2010

Thank you! I am working on a few more already. These vehicles are not cheap but they are a lot of fun to make and the results are getting better each time. Someone asked me if I would sell them. I guess I would but with each model being different a set price is not possible. LOL The prices all start with the raw materials, for example the vehicle cost. Then, depending on the how many lights and how many options that is wanted that would determine the final cost. Each model I light is picked because of what it offers, a story, a use in a scene or just a cool wow factor. Dont forget that the model HAS to be at least some what detailed. I mean you dont want to draw attention to an ugly thing right. Big Grin LOL

Thanks again to everyone that looked and the comments! It is appreciated!!
