Wow Jim Really sorry to hear this. Hope they can get you to surgery soon, and make things better. My wife had eye pressure issues, they put in a stent. But she still has to use eye drops to keep the pressure down. Hoping for the best possible outcome for you. RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #X.. Stop In!!! - FiatFan - 01-01-2026 Happy New Year, gang. Clear and 13 going to maybe clear and 25. Must have been a tough day for me yesterday as I slept for 8 hours last night. Another day of doing nothing is ahead of me today. Only activity on my agenda is to roll the trash can out to the curb. Jim - hope all goes well for you. All stay safe. Tom RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #X.. Stop In!!! - sir james - 01-01-2026 Thursday 1/01/26 Happy New Year Blue. Sun this morning but only 9 degrees. 20 for the day. Won't be above 32 till Monday. Snow fall yesterday evening made for some tricky driving. We stayed in, went to bed at 11:30. Decided it was not worth staying up for the big ball drop. Not too many Ka-booms last night. S.J. RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #X.. Stop In!!! - FiatFan - 01-02-2026 Greetings, gang. 20 going to 30. Warmer next week. Yesterday's goal (rolling the trash can to the curb) accomplished. Today's goal is to bring the can back to the garage. Otherwise a day of reading and watching movies. Just trying to ease into the new year. All stay safe. Tom RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #X.. Stop In!!! - FiatFan - 01-05-2026 Greetings, gang. Only 74 days til spring! 28 now going to the mid 40s later today. Near 50 by Wednesday. Biggest activity over the weekend was to take my car through the car wash. This morning I'm headed to the local hospital to sit with my son-in-law while my daughter has a knee replaced. Otherwise not much planned for the day. All stay safe. Tom RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #X.. Stop In!!! - hillyard999 - 01-05-2026 Tom, It will be tough for your daughter, & SIL, for about a week. The first 3 days are the hardest. But it's amazing how quickly the body repairs after this surgery. Things get better quickly. With my wife, we were up 3 times a night for meds or pee breaks. Apart from discomfort, the challenge was to keep track of the time intervals between pain meds, and stagger them. We used 3 types, each with its own distinct schedule. Every 3 hours, every 4 hours, three times a day, etc. BTW be careful with the oxy. To knock down the discomfort, around day 3, my wife tried once with two pills. Instead, she fell asleep while swallowing her coffee, right in her mouth. The coughing woke her up. But the big picture is that this surgery is remarkable and makes possible walking without pain. It's all good. Thank God for modern medicine, and modern pain relievers. Wishing your daughter the best in her recovery. RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #X.. Stop In!!! - sir james - 01-05-2026 Monday 1/05/26 Hello Blue We haven't gone anywhere since Christmas. New Years eve was cold and snowy, so we stayed home. Today we have sun and 36 degrees. Yesterday I watched the Lions win with a last-minute field goal. Grocery shopping is on our list for this week. My wife has had both knees replaced, recovery seems slow, but it pays off once healed. S.J. RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #X.. Stop In!!! - FiatFan - 01-06-2026 Greetings, gang. 30 degrees and foggy this morning outside my window. Supposed to get to around 40 by later today. Yesterday went well. Had a nice conversation with my son-in-law while daughter was getting upgraded. Some good news, some bad news from him about family. But that's true about any family. Just have to roll with the punches. Last night I got the bills paid. Just need to drop them in the mail or drive by. This morning I plan to head back to the gym. Haven't been for a while and it's beginning to show. This afternoon is a basketball game for one of the great-grandsons. I ordered a new game for my xbox last week and it seems to be a little slow getting here. Spent almost an entire day in a very small town in Utah. Took almost 24 hours to travel about 4 hours down the interstate to Salt Lake City. Then made it as far as central Nebraska yesterday. FedEx is not the best at updating the tracking. Hillyard - thanks for the tips. I will pass them along. Gas was $2.39 yesterday when I was out and about. All stay safe. Tom RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #X.. Stop In!!! - ngauger - 01-06-2026 My immune system decided to get one of the flu variants that the vaccine didn't cover. Been sick for 2 days. hopefully it'll be mostly gone tonight or tomorrow. RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #X.. Stop In!!! - FiatFan - 01-07-2026 Greetings, gang. 29 now and the NWS has decreed that we may get to the low 50s by this afternoon. then rain and snow tomorrow through Saturday. Decent workout at the gym yesterday. Otherwise a quiet day. Went to a basketball game for one of the great-grandsons yesterday. He was pretty excited when he scored a 3 pointer. The game was about 45 minutes away so his mom,, his grandmother, and I carpooled. Fun trip with lots of laughter and teasing. This morning I need to go to Walmart and Target. After that will be a trip to the gym followed by waiting for FedEx to deliver my package. Also on the docket is possibly a bike ride if the weather cooperates. Gas was down again yesterday to $2.32. All stay safe. Tom RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #X.. Stop In!!! - FiatFan - 01-08-2026 Greetings, gang. 32 and partly cloudy this morning in the remote reaches of northern Iowa. After yesterday's high of 54 it looks like today will not be nearly as pleasant. Rain moving in around noonish and lasting til sometime tonight before changing over to some light snow. 36 for tomorrow so whatever we get won't last too long. Yesterday was pretty quiet. Stopped at the local grocery store and discovered the sports drink I use was on sale at almost half price. Bought my usual amount yesterday and after the gym this morning I'll pick up another batch. With the mild weather I did get in a 7 mile bike ride yesterday. The NWS will have to work hard to get weather this nice this close to the new year for me to start my bike riding season any earlier. All stay safe. Tom RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #X.. Stop In!!! - FiatFan - 01-09-2026 Greetings, gang. Clear and 28 outside my window this morning. Maybe the mid 30s later. Pretty quiet again yesterday. Routine visit to the gym but I did find out the pool heater quit working (again). May be a longer delay this time as they are having some difficulty finding repair parts. Still plenty of other ways to burn calories. This morning I need to make a quick run to Walmart before heading to the gym. This afternoon I'll be stopping at a friends house to pick up some oak flooring and dropping off a pizza. Then it's on to another town for a basketball game. After the game I'll head back to the friends house for supper and bs. Gas was down to $2.29 yesterday when I was out and about. All stay safe. Tom RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #X.. Stop In!!! - sir james - 01-09-2026 Friday 1/9/26 Hello Blue. We have some sun, wet from overnight rain. 55 degrees but going down from there. 30s tomorrow. I just packed the Christmas tree away. It's time for a new one. It has shed a lot this year and the lights keep burning out. No special news. I am recovering from a fall, didn't break any bones but boy am I sore. I shall meander over to Facebook and play some slots (the free ones). S.J. RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #X.. Stop In!!! - tompm - 01-09-2026 Good very late evening folks It has been some time since I’ve posted to the Hobo Camp Fire. I have been busy and there has been a lot of things happening. Work has been crazy. The contractor is behind schedule and now has put a bunch of resources toward catching up. We have had some more night work and they have added another interchange to the mix. We now have five of seven interchanges under construction with temporary traffic conditions. Just before Christmas the contractor was working 50 plus hours a week. Winter is the perfect season to do demolition since it is not temperature dependent. At home it has been the heater again. We were dealing with hammering in the pipes and 5 non-heating radiators. Then just to make things even more exciting we had another leak in a pipe. After numerous visits from repairmen from two different plumbers, we have the leak fixed, less hammering, and only finicky radiators. As a result of the leak repair the layout is inaccessible for the time being as it is surrounded by stuff that had to be moved out of the way. I have been building some rolling stock kits over the last couple of weeks and plan to build some more. If all goes well tomorrow I hope to go to the Greenberg Train Show in Oaks, PA. Over the weekend we will be working on taking down the Christmas decorations. I hope everybody has a good night. |
