Hello Squidbait---thanks for responding and adding your great pictures highlighting some of the area's attractions.Actually I live in Stoney Creek, about 10 kms from the airport,so all my pictures were taken using the highest telescopic feature of my camera---one of these years I'm going to have to attend the airshow to get some decent pictures.I was doing some yard work over the weekend but kept my camera handy just in case some of the planes got close enough to take pictures.I was really hoping to get a shot of the B-29 and wouldn't you know that just when I took a break and was taking a shower I heard the plane fly right over my house 35 ---I'm glad I have better luck with my Railfanning adventures

Hello Everyone---Happy Independence Day to all our friends south of the border Cheers
I was lucky today. For a while I've been hearing some local railfans talking about the sighting of a rare locomotive in the area---a GMD1.These locomotives were built in 1959 and when new would have worn the original green and yellow paint scheme and shared assignments with steam locomotives, there are very few remaining on the system. Here's #1444 spotted off Howard Rd.,switching the Aldershot yard

As well,I caught a couple of other trains passing by

Hi Ed,
Great catch.
Our local short line, the Y&S actually ran a couple of those GMD-1's about 10 years ago. I was in Schenley and never got to see them myself.

Re: My Hometown---Part 2 - doctorwayne - 07-17-2012

Yeah, a pretty-decent day. Goldth Goldth

Here's our locomotive showing red markers, ready to leave Oshawa for the return trip:

...and a view through the front of the control car, snapped before they closed the door:

While we didn't get a lot of photos, it was a pleasant way to spend the day. It was also pretty economical, with our all-day passes (ride any train between Aldershot and Oshawa) costing only $15.00. Parking at the GO station was free and we could have (had we wished to start earlier and finish much later) started at dawn and finished in the dark. This is all slated to change at the end of July, with fees for parking and supposedly the discontinuation of the all-day pass. It was our modest attempt at a sorta-almost-last-run train ride.
Adding to the enjoyment was air conditioned comfort during the rides, beautiful warm weather when we walked, good company and conversation, and eats and beer before we all left for home. Thumbsup Thumbsup

Re: My Hometown---Part 2 - BR60103 - 07-17-2012

I hate to see the all-day pass go. It cost the same as a round-trip and didn't have to be cancelled before riding; you could put it in your pocket and forget it until the checkers asked for it.
And you can't stand at the front door anymore????
