It was overcast and raining today at Bayview---but better than that white stuff---forecast for tomorrow calls for snow flurries,will this winter ever end

It's Canada. Be prepared for the last snowfall of winter on June 30 and the first snowfall on July 1.

Yeah, I've seen a substantial snowfall in this area in late April (1978) and also snow in August, although that one was "up North", eh? Misngth

I lost a beautiful garden to frost here in the sunny south (southeast Ohio) on the 29th of June in 1971 or 72.
Any thing can happen with the weather.

Mr Nutbar, can you give us a better idea of what we're seeing here? Are the CN and CP here in different yards? How do they relate to each other and other lines in the area? Or can you identify some of the trains and what they're doing and the traffic they're handling? The more I learn about this kind of thing in my area, the more I think of things I can apply to modeling!

Hello jwb---thanks for responding.Hamilton Ontario is serviced by both Canadian National and the Canadian Pacific as well as GO commuter and VIA passenger service. RAILLINK provides switching service to local industries and CN's Stuart St. yard so I'm lucky to have a variety of railfanning venues.Most of my CN mainline freight pictures are taken at Bayview,located a few kilometers west of Hamilton's Stuart St. yard---today's pictures start with a freight train coming off the Dundas Sub-division and heading east towards Aldershot,Burlington,Toronto.Bayview is a great place for local railfanning where you can also see trains coming out of Hamilton from the Grimsby Sub-division.This mainline runs through the industrial northern part of the city---in the first photo the set of tracks on the left head into Hamilton and the Grimsby sub. CN Geep 4138 was switching the Aldershot yard today,the picture was taken at Howard Rd.

CP's mainline runs through the center of Hamilton and has two yards,Kinnear at the east end and Aberdeen yard in the west end.Go trains also use this trackage for commuter service---however the track usage ends at the GO station in downtown Hamilton .Kinnear yard is my favourite spot for watching CP trains---located at Gage St.S. and Lawrence Rd.,you can get up close and personal to all the action.There is regular yard motive power which usually consists of three diesels,including older GP9's and GP38-2's and newer rebuilds such as #2262 shown today.CP often uses leased units so you often have a variety of locomotives on their mainline freight trains.

I had one of those special railfanning days today as I spotted my first patched ex UP C40-8 #2039 at Aldershot today---the action at Bayview and Lawrence Rd. was pretty good as well.

An interesting four diesel consist was sitting at the west end of Kinnear Yard this morning.Unfortunately I couldn't get some good pictures due to the trains location so these will have to do.

Hi Charlie---the Canadian Pacific mainline in Hamilton runs right through the center of a residential neighborhood of the city so there are many homes like the one in the picture with the train tracks almost in the backyard---a railfanner's dream come true but I'm sure a lot of those home-owners aren't as happy
