Thanks again for the input, guys. Looks like it's gonna be #2

I can see the logic of using a sector plate, particularly if the layout was being operated from behind, 'exhibition style'.

However,I was thinking of using an 'urban canyon' to stage the train, similar to my Palmetto Spur layout.

I would approach the problem as follows:
1. If there is "something" more than the ISL like a selector plate, staging yard etc. the runaround should be omitted
2. If you have to run the ISL only is depends if you see the ISL as A) a little world by itself or B) a part of a larger world
A. do not hesitate to have your runaround
B. no runaround because it is like 1) but the "something" is only in your mind.
