Re: More operations on the Kings Port Division - doctorwayne - 02-02-2013 Nice work, Ralph. Wayne Re: More operations on the Kings Port Division - Charlie B - 02-02-2013 Great job Ralph. You captured the mood very well. Charlie Re: More operations on the Kings Port Division - Ralph - 02-02-2013 Thanks guys! To continue....Tommy and Wil start working on the float. Pulling forward and onto the primary siding, they are about to hook up with five of the ten cars. The lead to the car float isn't long enough to accommodate ten cars. They'd foul the main too long by grabbing the whole string. Once again Tommy and Wil pass Canton Box and briefly block two roads. Backing up and slow running down the lead to the float, the cars past an Empire Grain truck unloading structure... ...and then start rolling onto the float. To avoid capsizing the car float and tipping cars in the drink, they are loaded two or three at a time on either side. It will take two moves to load the first five. Once the first five are loaded, Tommy and Wil go back for the other five. A couple of newly painted PC 40 footers are in this group... Backing up again... ....and the remaining cars are loaded. The cars are secured and the Robert H. is ready to go. That will do it for now! I think the whole car float yard scenario above could occur at the beginning of an ops session since the cars "left overnight" would be staged on a siding that I might use to run other trains later. Once that primary siding is clear I'd have more options for other trains. I seem to keep coming up with operations ideas for my layout. You should see me with a legal pad sketching potential ops moves. Re: More operations on the Kings Port Division - Harry - 02-03-2013 super Ralph Re: More operations on the Kings Port Division - Tyson Rayles - 02-03-2013 Always a pleasure to see your layout ! Re: More operations on the Kings Port Division - Kev1340 - 02-05-2013 Great stuff, and really nice photos Ralph You are making me think about including a car float on my next layout :? Cheers, Kev Re: More operations on the Kings Port Division - modelsof1900 - 02-05-2013 Great model railroading. Thanks for sharing! Re: More operations on the Kings Port Division - Ralph - 02-10-2013 Thank you gentlemen for the kind words! It ocurred to me that I've been missing an opporutnity for train meets on the other side of the layout and just rewired a couple of blocks yesterday to help make them possible. At Kings Port, Local KM-4 waits for a KP&W coal train. Two SD9s in the new company scheme rumble in front of the PC GP40 A view of the action from the other direction. A long line of hoppers rolls by.... ...until the orange KP&W caboose is clear, allowing KM-4 access to the next block. Re: More operations on the Kings Port Division - Tyson Rayles - 02-10-2013 Awesome as always Ralph ! Re: More operations on the Kings Port Division - Mike Kieran - 02-10-2013 Ralph, I really love how the SDs add another dimension to the KP&W color schemes. Kind of like the Lehigh Valley, but more cohesive! Re: More operations on the Kings Port Division - Ralph - 02-11-2013 Thanks guys! I'm liking the new KP&W scheme too Mike, and will decorate any addtional locomotives in black and orange. Here is a video of a similar train meet. I'm apparently trying to model my narration on some railfan videos I own! http://youtu.be/xbch4ztMpSo Re: More operations on the Kings Port Division - cn nutbar - 02-11-2013 Excellent Ralph ---the narration makes the video even better---have you ever considered a career in broadcasting Re: More operations on the Kings Port Division - Don Dunn - 09-26-2013 Great looking layout Ralph. Don Re: More operations on the Kings Port Division - scribbelt - 02-22-2015 Hello Ralph, it's quite an impressive layout you got there , I really like the impression of the industrial and commercial activities; very nice structures, stores, background building, waterfront scene and I can go on like that for another few lines. Great job One day I will be able to show you guys some finished scenes..... Have a nice day |
