Try and make a long story short...
A couple weeks ago, at my LHS, I ordered a couple curved turnouts and a building kit. Yesterday, they called and said my order had come in. Today I stopped by there to pick it up and he brought out a PA powered /PB dummy set from Broadway Limited Imports, DCC, with sound, (I guess these used to be known as Precision Craft) in Santa Fe colors. I looked at him and said, "This isn't what I ordered." He disappeared in the back and somebody else popped out with my customer folder in hand. As he leafed through, he finally pulled out an order sheet. Sure enough, it had my name on it specifying this exact product. I looked at him with a perplexed look and asked, "When did I order this?" Well, let's just check the date shall we...
July of 2006, NEARLY FOUR YEARS AGO!!!
Somewhere in there, a faint glimmer of a distant memory flickered. By golly I guess I had. I had completely forgotten about it. Four years!!!!!! Can you believe that???
Anyways, I threw up a quick light and shot some quickies for ya. I have no idea how it looks with lights on as I haven't even turned on the power yet.
I need a better camera.

Nice set!!! Had you pre-paid or did you have to fork over some cash you weren't planning to spend that day? Either way, they look great!

Should of tied a string on one of your fingers.
Of course...After four years, you might of forgotten what the string was suppose to remind you of.

Sooo, after being in posession of this thing for a month now, I finally got around to cleaning some track to run it on and hear the cool sound effects. Upon placing it on the track, I gave it some juice and immediately got the DC hum. Tried to make it go on the factory 03 setting with no response. Finally it responded on 00... with the hum.
I'm running a Digitrax system which supports DC engines on the 00 setting. The hum is indicative of a DC engine AND, there was no sound.
All three of these symptoms suggest that my DCC engine with sound was not DCC, nor did it have sound. I immediately called the Hobby Shop and was told to bring it right back. I did and they replicated the same results with their tests even though they said they tested it before I took ownership of it. As it was nearing closing time and they could not figure out how to get the shell off to verify if it even had sound or not, I told them to hang on to it and take their time tomorrow.
That's an awful long time to wait for an engine to not get what I forgot I was getting!

It's to your credit you're still able to keep a good humor over this. It sounds like there might be some dcc problems under the hood...if it really has a decoder board in it to start with. Hopefully, you'll get it figured out very soon and have the units up and running.
