Those Kato SD's are amazing units. I just got mine yesterday and can't believe how smooth they are, the detail is phenomenal too!
I'm really excited to get my MRC sound decoder for it!
Seeing these units in operation ALMOST makes me wanna go modern... Then only reason why I bought one was because its' the only CN unit Kato currently makes, and I need some reliable CN power.

Hi Larry/Luke,
Yes the SD's are beautiful locos i do like the Norfolk paint scheme all power looking ......... the SD 80 MAC runs like a dream a favorite on the coal trains to the mine for sure.
Luke shame you cant get bodies in CN to fit Kato chassis as the are the #1 Nscale runners

the one thing I thought about doing is that there are a lot of Kato N F7's in CP/CN on Nscalesupply.com, but its not cost effective to purchase a DC only chassis just for the body so I can trasnplant it onto a newer DCC body... that and nscalesupply.com and I are not on good terms due to some bad transactions.
I wonder if a Model Power F body could fit on a Kato?
But the intermountain F's are fantastic runners too! Almost kato like.

Interesting you mention nscalesupply...I've bought several items from them and was ok with the service...that's "ok" - not "pleased". But I go their website everyday for up-to-date Nscale news and new items. (But I need to apologize for almost hijacking the thread from where it started.)
Nice 80MAC and SD unit! I really like those Kato 80's and SD40-2's. They run so smoothly. I had a slight problem with my rear truck on the SD unit...turns out it wasn't even getting power. I fiddled with it a bit and found the conductive metal strip wasn't making the best contact. (I discovered the problem when I tried to clean the wheel sets. When I took the front trucks off the tracks to clean them, the power wasn't going through the rear set of trucks at all. When I put the front trucks back on the rails and elevated the rear trucks for cleaning, they turned fine.) Do yourself a favor if you already haven't...download the disassembly instructions for the Kato SD40 unit from their website. You really got to do some pulling to remove the shell correctly and the instructions tell you just where to hold onto and how hard to pull.
