For the layout addition portion of the challenge I am going to working on the Bridges Area of the Layout.
I want to accomplish the following:
Layout down the roadway and sidewalks.
Place the roadway tunnel portal.
Place the pedestrian tunnel portals.
Place the retaining walls.
Fill in behind the bridge abutments and retaining walls.
Shape the terrain at the wingwalls
Scenery
It may be a little too ambitious but we will see.

tom if we always set the bar low, we never will get things done. that's why it's a Challange.

One month into the challenge and I finally have begun working on the project.
The first thing I need to do is get the roadway in place. For the road I am going to use Walthers Asphalt Road System. Originally I was going to use Woodland Scenics Smooth It but trying to place the forms proved to be too difficult. I think the Walthers system will work best in the confined space. I may still use Smooth It to fill in gaps.
First step is to assemble the roadway sections.
Next place the roadway section in place to determine how everything will fit.

With some tweaking two sections will fit nicely between the big bridge and the tunnel portal.
Add the tunnel portal to see how it looks.
Add the thru girder bridge to see how the sidewalk will fit.
I will need to add the rest of the sidewalk and glue everything down.

Smooth-It would definitely have been a real challenge in that space, Tom. It's always nice to have another option. We're looking forward to further progress.

Next checking to see how the pedestrian portals will fit.
The portals are N scale tunnel portals from Chooch.
The pedestrian tunnels will connect to subway entrances which are there own challenge project.

I used the base of the subway entrance to mark the foam that I will need to remove for the entrance.
Here is a shot of the entrance locations and the portals.

I finally got some work done. I used some spackle and smoothed out some rough areas and filled in holes and painted it.
I began adding some clump foliage around the tunnel wall.
