Conrail Covered Hopper #889287, ex Penn Central #889287 Lilly, Pa 14 Years Ago. It had still survived well into the NS era and made it through the Conrail era without being repainted. No other information was found on this car.

What sort of liquefied petroleum gas is that we see in the tank car to the left?

In model railroading, there are between six and two hundred ways of performing a given task.
Most modellers can get two of them to work.

Not quite sure. This picture was taken 14 plus years ago.

I went through my older cars looking for patch jobs and it looks like they were rare. Lackawanna cars were still operating and the EL merger was in 1961. for the most part it looks like the railroads left the predecessors as is until the car went for a complete paint job. I thought I would find a lot but Chessie cars didn't get patched much and Penn Central seemed to leave theirs in PRR or NH, or NYC until repaints too. Here is what I found.
